As long as it is 2005-2008, all head units should be compatible. However, there was only one trim in 2005, and all 2005 RLs came with XM unless possibly this isn't a USDM car.

I wish it were that easy. I suspect he will have to also add the XM antenna and the XM tuner as I don't think they are present on a base model. The XM tuner is $1373.94 by itself and the antenna module is $197.63. That's not including the various sub-harnesses that may or may not be there. Also, does the OP have an XM subscription? Won't work without it---

One thing I have learned on newer cars is that if you want a particular feature, go ahead and find one that already has it as adding stuff like that is prohibitively expensive. ESPECIALLY electronics.

There was only one trim in 2005. We need more info to correctly help the OP, but I am sure you are right. If they didn't put an XM headunit in the car, I doubt they put the tuner. I was under the impression the GPS antenna and the XM antenna were the same though.

This is a head-scratcher. All of the documentation I can find states that the '05 had XM & Navi as did the '06's and the '07 base model had XM but no Navi. I believe the XM and GPS antennas are co-located in the CHMSL but are separate units.

I suspect the OP has a radio with XM and doesn't know how to activate it. Why he bought a head unit for XM is beyond me. That's all my feeble brain can come up with.

If you look at parts diagrams.

The module in the trunk is not there and the radio in 05 well in canada did not have XM.

I highly doubt even the wiring is there for it in the 2005. If anyone can check there trunk on the left side for a wiring harness??

I never got any notices that anyone replied! Sorry for the long delay. So basically, i dont really want the XM capability. I see that the GROM will show all the information on the navi screen, but only if it has XM button - which mine does not. Since mine doesnt have a XM button located on the stereo at all, what does that mean?

I saw a head unit with XM on it for $150 shipped, so i was thinking about switching just to get the few extra features. lol.

Does the GROM unit plug into the XM module like the USASpec unit? If so, I would think you are out of luck.

Also, what is in the place of where a typical XM button is? Is your car Canadian?

Here is what i have currently. Its a bit dirty lol. From the VIN lookup, it says it is manufactured in Japan (as i would expect most to be), but i live in Hawaii and never in Canada.

HI and AK models were the reason the 2007 had a base model with no satellite interaction. The regions are beyond the geosyntric satellites the systems that rely on them use. That doesn't answer the question of if you have the XM module or if the GROM relies on it though. If it doesn't, then it may be as simple as pressing "FM" which is where the XM button should be. It maybe could work with an XM capable HU. But if the GROM plugs into the XM module, then I am going to guess you are out of luck.

Im not sure about no sat interaction, i had the navigation working great until recently, it stopped reading the disc and just stays on an error screen. I have an extended warranty with the dealership i got it from so hopefully that is covered...

Sooo - i know its bad to revive an old thread. But i feel like i needed to update. I ended up getting a new nav unit from warranty as well I do have a GROM unit, but i wasnt able to see the artist on the screen and all that so a few small features were missing. Anyways...
Both stereo units have the same connections - i bought a XM version of my unit, installed it - put in the code and it works great. So they are - in fact - interchangeable.
