Hello,

Has anyone had the backlit climate control led burn out? My dealer said it is 1.5 hour labour and $7/bulb (5 of them) to replace. They also told me it is not covered under warranty.

Anyone done this themselves?

Good question. Let us know. Also see if LEDs can be used. They potentially have a lot more life than the small incandescents.

I am trying to replace the bulb behind the "off" & "recirculate" buttons. I can't get the head unit to pull out more than a 1/2" or so though. got the bulbs at Radio Shack for around $1 each.

I have replaced them.

Key notes are:

Replace all 5 at once whether or not they are out or not.

Center stack comes out as one piece. Mine pulled out a lot more than 1/2" as referenced above. I believe in this case, some wires are hung. My pulled out a good 6 inches. I reached behind and unplugged everything then handled the unit easily.

You will have to remove the AC module and then remove the cover housing the lights.

It really was easy and anyone can do it. Save yourself the cash and DIY.

So where did you get the bulbs?

Can you use LEDs?

More interested, again, because LEDs tend to have a longer life than incandescents, and I don't want to do it twice, when I have to do it.

Are these them by any chance?

The only issue I can think of from using LEDs is the color wont match unless you get warm white LEDs to get as close to the incandescant color as possible. The light is filtered before the buttons so the normal blueish cool white will probably look very dim since the blue light wont pass the filter.

I changed out all my climate control bulbs with the radio shack ones for like $8 so thats definatly the way to go IMO.

I am up for either replacing the 5 burnt ones with the factory bulbs, or all of them with something different.

Anybody have part numbers or links to the factory bulbs as well as aftermarket replacements?

I had this problem come up in an '06 RL during the second year of ownership: not all lights were gone, just the ones for the driver side temperature switch. The dealer replaced them all under warranty.

Here's the thread I followed to change mine out:

This thread has a couple other links to help with the replacement. These links are:

Don't forget to also change out the bulb from the hazard button while you have the radio/climate control out. When I originally replaced mine, I neglected to change out this, so I had to take the dash apart a second time when I realized this bulb was out also.

I think if you go to the 2G RL Garage and look for the MusicLink install instructions, you will have your answer. You can also find it by googling and I think some internet dealers have it posted also.
