Torque Converter Seal

Anyone care to offer what it costs to replace the torque converter seal?

This leak developed or was developing about the time I did the valve adjustment. I found oil on the rubber mat under the car that I use to protect the floor from stains. I cleaned it up, and the bottom of the engine thinking it might have been residual antifreeze from when I changed the hose while I was in there.
I found more oil on the mat. I jacked the car up thinking it was power steering fluid. Nope, perfectly dry. However, there is a torque converter cover plate that seemed to have some oil around it. I removed the cover and the rear main seal is dry. The only thing left in there is the torque converter seal. There is some residual oil in the bottom of the bell housing. So, I am thinking that the torque converter seal is leaking.
This means the entire trans has to be pulled. Best to put in all new seals while it is out.

It's more likely your rear main crank seal. Check your engine oil level asap. Either way you can change both seals. Or if it's rear main seal, try using ATP 205 in engine oil or try mobil 1 HM oil sometimes it will slow the leak. Changing the seal is a big job and expensive.

Try some HM oil, might slow the leak but won't stop it. It might be the rear main seal. Either way, it's an expensive job as it requires pulling the engine and trans.

When you pull the inspection cover off, you can look straight up at the rear main. If the rear was leaking the torque converter plate will have oil streaks on it. The plate is like new. So the oil then can only come from one source and that is the torque converter seal. There seems to be oil in the bottom of the bell housing. The oil appears to be transfluid. All oil levels are good. This leak so far is just a weep, but they progress. Time to get an estimate of what it will cost to pull the trans and fix the seal. It will not be cheap as we are talking a cheap seal but man hours to pull it.
