Oil Leak and Trans Leak

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had issues with an Oil Pump, axle seal, and/or Rear Main Seal leaking? I have all of the above in varying degrees of seriousness. Just had the transmission fluid replaced today as the level was getting a little low. I had it done at the dealer and they brought me under the car to show me the leaks. I just had the oil changed not even 500 miles ago and there is a good amount of oil coming down from the top of the engine and dripping all the way down to the oil pan. It's enough to drip off the bolt. The dealer gave me some quotes. I think they said 1400 for the oil pump leak and around 270 for the rear main seal. Could be more for the transmission if there's another leak and they have to take the transmission out. Just wondering if anyone has had these repairs done/if it's a common issue and what you were charged. Thanks a lot.

Definitely sounds like the rear main seal is the cause of the oil leak from the top, hard to say about the oil pump. As far as the transmission, I've had it out 3 times, rebuilt once, and resealed twice, and it still leaks. There's a gasket that runs straight down the middle of the trans case which is where my leaks come from, but yes removing the trans isn't cheap. Aamco charges $600 just to drop the trans, and that's before any work is done

If it's an axle seal that's leaking on the trans, they should just be able to replace that and/or the axle I believe

Thanks, that all makes sense. Was your trans leaking enough to noticably reduce the amount of fluid? My mechanic said the oil leak was the Rear Main Seal. The dealership on the other hand said that the RMS was possibly leaking but that they were pretty sure the main source was coming from the oil pump. They said it took them a while to locate the source of the leak. They showed me but I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking at. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Yes, when it was leaking really bad, I did have to top off the fluid, this time around I have a really small leak
