No A/C in RL. Bypass relay & recharge?
Hello All,
The A/C in my 2005 RL went warm over the course of 3-4 days. The compressor was engaging at start-up a few different time and would continue working until I shut off the car. Now A/C compressor will not turn on, I am assuming this is because of low pressure and no freon. Has anyone had any experience bypassing the relay which would engage the compressor straight from the battery? I had to do this with an older sports car, but I am hesitant to do it in my RL. Once the compressor has engaged I will recharge it. No running compressor means no recharge.
Thank you
Pete

The 2005 A/C I issues have been well documented here. I think the stator is the majority culprit. Many have trouble shooted their issues by directly applying power and documented that as well. The service manual is probably going to a be a good friend in this process.

I was thinking more along the lines of a search, but I'll do it for you.

If you determine the problem is the clutch and stator (common issues), I have one I bought that I thought would fix my problem but I ended up replacing the whole unit.
Let me know, I'll save you a few bucks.

"Ohm out" is a quick way of saying to check for the amount of resistance found in the field coil. Unless you feel like going through the service manual yourself, then i would suggest going to the dealer because it sounds like your "repair guy" is not going to save you any money by just throwing a whole compressor at the problem. That is an over-repair in most cases.
