Looking for Little things to make your RL look new again.
Well my thread was deleted, since I’m “new”.. I’m not actually new here, I’ve owned my 06 RL since 2010, and have been on this forum since then. unfortunately I pretty much never posted. I’m sure my screen name was deleted due to inactivity. At least I’m assuming since my account is no longer here, and had to make a new one. Regardless this is a pretty dead section of the forum. And unfortunately if all the rules are always enforced this section of the forum will likely stay that way. I’ve been doing random little things here and there to make my RL look new again. Replacing parts with new, refinishing what can’t be replaced. What are you guys doing? Currently I’m in the process of finding a new driver side floor mat. Figuring a new mat will help renew the interior. (Not posting any buy/sell/trade) simply commenting, gotta follow the rules. What little things are you guys doing? Heres a pic of my ride.
Your car looks pretty "new" to me. What's the problem? Mine also looks fairly new but the chrome strip below the grill is looking cracked. I got my interior detailed not long ago and that made a big difference.
Thanks for the compliments. This is where I’ve gotten after a while of working the details. Currently the things that bug me:
1: small tear in driver door leather, I tend to rest my leg on it and it tore right where the stitching is, it’s about 1” total but enough to buy me. They sell leather replacements, which I did on the center console lids but in the end I wasn’t super happy with the color of the leather matching my original, so I’m hesitant to do the same on the door. Especially since only my driver side needs it.
My 2nd current big issue is my driver side floor mat, the stitching is pretty much gone and can no longer read the “RL”, that and the stains from the age. The rest of my mats are in great shape. I detail my car myself, and I do pretty good at not getting it dirty. So detailing isn’t really going to help.
another thing I’m going to be doing Soon is the window tint, Its tinted now but, I’ve had it for so long you can’t even tell anymore. There’s a little dark edge when you open the window and can see the area that sits in the window frame.
my wheels are 20x9 Verde Parrallax, i don’t remember the offset.
One of the best things I’ve done to my exterior is “covered” my old worn black window trims. My trims were looking like SHIT, the pic shows.. they were bad. I found this tape on eBay, it’s black prinstrip tape, it’s super thin, solid black. I was able to cover all my worn trims and then just fold the excess into the rubber behind it. So pretty much no trimming.
Do you have a link to what you purchased? I need to do the same on my RL!

RL floormats aren't easy to find. WeatherTech sells mats that aren't custom-sized for the slow-selling RL, and they don't fit perfectly. A brand called Lloyd that you can find online has carpeted mats that don't say "RL," but do say "Acura" in proper logo script. I have the parchment interior, as you appear to. Black mats provide a nice contrast, and don't show dirt like the tan ones.
If you've got the usual cracking of your center armrest cover, there's a Texas guy on eBay who does a fine job. He reupholstered mine in genuine leather (the original is crappy vinyl) for about $50. Well worth it.
As preventive medicine, I suggest regular applications of 303 Aerospace Protectant (think sunscreen for upholstery) to the upper third of your glovebox door.
Also, I was annoyed by the skinny rim of the RL steering wheel, which gave me tired hands and wrists on long drives. So, mostly to fatten up the rim, I laced on a black leather Wheelskins steering wheel cover. It had the unexpected dividend of making the whole cockpit look sportier and the wheel look smaller, to the point where a guy complimented me on my smaller-diameter replacement steering wheel. Works especially nicely if you also do the black floormats.
Anyone know the best way to re do the chrome body parts along the body of the car? Can a auto body shop just re finish them or do you need to buy OEM new, they are sort of expensive!
There is a guide in our stickies on how to use a chrome sheet to rechrome those bits. That would be the cheapest way! Any shop able to vinyl wrap can do it as well. I would avoid new OEM since the surrounding piece comes prepainted and the color might not be 100% match due to fade.
i ended up buying a new driver side floor mat off eBay for a 2010... apparently they had completely different grey interiors.. so that was a no go.. then I added the notifications on that specific search for the floor mats.. a little over a week ago I got notification that a new item was listed matching my search term.. it was a full mat set being sold as “used” the pictures made them look immaculate. For $70 bucks.. so I bought em.. they came in and I was amazed.. the embroidery is so crisp and clean! ZERO stains, they look brand new.. im so excited about my replacement mats. And it’s the full set!
on another note. About 4 weeks ago my car got backed into while parked in front of my house. So now my rear bumper has brand new paint.
as far as the chrome moldings I replaced them all to new from the dealer. They were PRICEY, but to me was well worth it.. no issues with color matching.
TonyCD: You mentioned the glovebox! Damnit if I didn’t start to notice a few tiny bumps on it only a few days ago!! I was just turned onto 303 protectant. Have used it on my truck but not yet on my RL (her name is Kimberly). I’m wondering if it’s just age. She has been garaged for the last 2 or so years now. So she doesn’t get too much direct sun anymore. And I’m 99% sure those bumps haven’t been there long.
I think the tape I used was 3/4”. The edges rolled under the rubber so excess wasn’t much of an issue.
mans yeah mats were hard to find.. I set a search on eBay with notifications is a new item was listed.
