Long Crank Time
Long Crank Time
My 2005 RL
Anyone have this issue before "Long Crank Time" before the car will start. Usually the second crank is shorter and will start the engine. The wealther here in socal has been really HOT this week 100F plus. I've search and only two TSB that might be the problem:
TSB 09-007: (2009 RL) Long Crank Time or Hard Start After “Hot/Warm Soak"
TSB 07-017: (2005 RL) Safety Recall: Fuel Pump Relay May Cause Engine No-Start or Stalling
I do have a MITSUBA fuel pump relay and will be replacing it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I had the same issue over the last month. Once it took 5 seconds to start another time seemed like 8 or so, not the usual 1 or 2. I put some techron in the fuel tank and since then no issues. Not sure if it was the techron, but I really like that stuff. Solved several issues in the past for me on other cars. On the bottle it says it solves cold start issues. I do have the denso relay.

Once the weather is cooler, do you still have the problem? Do you know it is only hot weather related? This could be a lot of things other than gas....battery, low fuel pressure, weak spark plugs, clogged air filter, some sensor could be malfunctioning...things way beyond my expertise...j
You may have to bring it to a mechanic if the others here cannot help you.

Thanks Chas2,
Temperature has drop to low 90F. Still same result. 2nd crank is usually faster to start the car. I've also tried pressing the gas a little and it does seem to start a lot faster. Hopefully I have some time this weekend and do a full tune-up. From spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and maybe clean out the throttle body. My car is current at 67k miles.
