feedback: window deflectors/visors/shades

Okay guys, first off HUGE thanks to romrunning for this write up

Review of Weathertech side window deflectors for 2nd gen RL

Now that I know weathertech is not going to work for me, what are you all using?

I assume Honda factory parts, but lets see what you have.

Thanks in advance.

I recall your help with translation on another thread, so I will interject my (so this thread will have at least 1 reply!)

I have never been a big fan of window deflectors, but normally go OEM on pretty much every accessory for my RL. But since we get so much comparison with the 09 Accord, you might consider buying the deflectors from Honda as they are half the price (I bet they are exactly the same).

LoL, thank you for throwing the life line out.

I'm not a huge fan either but the function almost out weighs the form.

But I have to admit that the OEM pic I found seemed to be a slim design and not sitting up off the window.

Any way, thanks again.

How so? I really don't understand the need for a "deflectors" if you’re rolling down the window for fresh air? It seem kinda semi counterproductive?

Haha, well when you put it that way it does seem a bit counterproductive.

My thought was that they "deflected" the sun and rain but you make a good point.

My reason for contemplating these, yes I am not sold on them hence the discussion, was two fold...

1. while at work I park my car in an open lot with a sunshade in the front window and the factory shade up in the rear, I often leave the windows cracked to help with the heat... but here in Va we often get sporadic rain and there is no way I can make it to my car in time if there was a downpour. I also don't appreciate the mess I find when its "grass cutting day" here and the dust is flying.

So these would help alleviate that concern.

2. Also I understand through research that I will gain 5mph and a peak in MPG's with the increased aerodynamics and reduced buffering from high speeds with the windows cracked. Plus I believe I read a Harvard study that cracking the window increases cell phone reception and reduces the risk for cancer.

Okay well that second bullet is bullshit but you get the point.

And by the way thanks for entertaining the conversation.

I had those on a car once, and learned to dislike them due to our perception that the utility was limited. That said, they will allow you to crack your windows when parked w/o much blowing in.

i have the oem ones and they look good and allow me to slightly open my windows for fresh air when its raining. It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks. If you like it buy it.

T-jay, thanks for the post... you have any pics? (if you posted one already, just let me know, I cant see it at work cause of the firewalls)

I wanted to get those 20's from you too, good luck on that sale.

I went with Acura OEM. I too have the "mowing day at work" scenario, although the visors do not seem to keep as much debris out as I had hoped.
The main appeal to me is the ability to crack the windows enough to allow ventilation on hot days, without letting the sun shine directly on the black leather.
I haven't taken any pics since they were installed, but I couldn't be happier with the appearance. Low, sleek, nice.

Note on installation. I read page one of the install instructions and decided to let the dealer do this. They first try, they botched the install pretty good. Twisted window channel rubber, missing adhesive pads, mis-aligned visors, etc. Dealer submitted a warranty claim to Acura claiming defective parts. Round two came out perfectly.

Side benefit . . . I always had a wind whistle when driving with the drivers window more than half-way down. That is now gone.

Thanks for the feedback Max, I too read the instructions on line and saw that there were little brackets that had to be installed under the rubber gasket.

Good call on the dealer install.
