Extended Warranty Mail

I bought 2006 RL back from a dealer in 2007 and I start getting this extended warranty mail keep scaring me that my warranty is expiring. Did anybody get them? The latest is from Vehicle Protection of America. It has "WARNING: $2,000 FINE, 5 YEARS IMPRISONMENT, OR BOTH..." written in front of the mail.

But I did get an extended warranty from Acura via the internet from Ray Laks Acura. It was 50% or better of the cost the dealer quoted. You cannot get it over the internet if you live in Florida, and certain other conditions may apply.

In addition, I seem to recall something about Acura was going to no longer allow extended warranty sales via the internet.

Anyone know if this is true?

Common marketing tactic for the aftermarket warranty companies. They try to scare you into calling then you get the hard sell. Expensive and try to get them to pay for a repair. Many states are after them for fraud, false advertising, etc. There are good ones out there but I'd bet Vehicle Protection of America isn't one of them. Besides, your OEM warranty still has a ways to go.

The warning on the envelope is meaningless as it just refers to fraudulent use of the mail system.

This is true. You can still contact the dealership by phone to get the best deal, and the involved dealers still have web pages to direct you to call them.

Tim is now at Acura of Peoria (AZ) and is again active on the board.

As for the OP's mail, as noted above, it's junk and only those who believe in the likelihood of a bridge across Lake Erie to Canada from Cleveland in the immediate future would really respond to those.

But what surprise me is I did not get anything from Honda/Acura. I keep getting these junk mail. I do not know how they got my name or how they know I got an Acura.

As we can see from the marketing of the RL, that is just too far of a stretch for Acura to offer the warranty extension--which i actually appreciate, less junk mail. I believe the other guys probably get the name and model info from public records...

Auto registrations are public records. Same thing as when I get weekly letters offering to refinance my mortgage. They know who it's with and the original amount.

I answered the call from these clowns and asked them which car they were talking about. They couldn't tell me. This is classic junk mail and fishing for business. Can't believe they are still at it.

I need to pick up an extended warranty myself, I never ever thought I would own this car longer then 4 years ( my average is 2-3 years ). Since getting married, she seems to think she has a say in my car purchases I would like to get the Acura Care though, I believe it is the best bang for your buck. I have been getting the same letters with the warranty expiration warnings, but like everyone else has said, it is just junkmail !
