To get painted or not

My car bumper was scratched, there is a deep 2inch by 2inch scratch and the paint is gone deep to the plastic. Bumper protector took much of the hit. I took it to a collision place and they want to paint the whole bumper or at least half the bumper where it is scratched. I am a little hesitant to get it painted. Do I have any other option than getting the whole bumper painted. Can some one suggest me a good scratch repair place in san antonio.

IMHO the best option is to get the whole bumper painted so the color is well-blended. That's a pretty large scratch if it's 2 x 2 inches.

+ 1: Definitely the whole bumper. You might consider starting your search for a quality shop though first speaking with the managers of very up-scale used car dealerships.

i've seen small "body shops" that do "bumper" repair..they usually charge $200-250 for small sections..but they dn't repaint the whole thing.

i recently had my bumper get hit = veryminor, but it's scuffed up. body shop quoted me about $800 to remove/repaint/replace the rear bumper.. seems expensive for such a small scratch..but you get what you pay for...

i'd suspec the small "fly by night" places that paint it on the cheap do cheap work, an da year or two down the road, you'll have flaking paint, mismatched paint, etc...

do it right. an RL is a classy car.

I had the same thing happen when I first bought my RL back in 2006. I bit the bullet and had it repainted, immediately. I would recommend you get a few different quotes from different shops though, you might end up saving a lot of $$$ that way.

Thanks for the input guys.
I have searched this whole week and ended up with two options

1. Reference from a friend in a big car stealership - quoted $300 to paint the whole bumper or $150 just to fix the spot. I have seen his work and I want to get the spot fixed rather than painting the whole bumper.

2. Got quotes from two different body shops for around $500 - $800 to get it painted completely.

I do not want to mess up the factory paint, how ever good a body shop may be they might not match the paint from the factory. I agree RL is a class car, I really appreciate the car when I drive other cars and compare it with mine. It is a well refined tank on wheels.
