Everytime I leave my car for about 3-5 days without driving it will die and not start battery completly is drained. I had it checked out by dealer and everything checked out ok I think he said the sleep draw was only like 8ma or something like that? Was wondering if you guys know of a good trickle chargers or I was looking at getting a battery brain platinum and see if that would help.

Do a search in this forum for "parasitic draw". I think I read somewhere that the '05's had a problem with this issue relating to the HFL module or trunk release.

Buy as much cold cranking amps as you can find. The Optima 8025-160 Red top is a great choice. 720 CCA. The 05 sucks battery power.

I have a red top optmia right now but that still gets drained after 3 or so days after left sitting. Any one check out a battery brain platinum and think that could stop a draw if there is one. Have taken car to 2 differernt dealers and both times everything checks out.

Thanks

I have the same issues with my 2005. I have checked the car in my local Shop and they couldn't found anything wrong. My battery drains every time after 12hrs of not running my car.
I, thinking of buying a new Optima battery just to see if the cars starts after 12hrs or see if battery didn't drain after a week, like my las new battery.

Not sure what the battery brain is and if it will solve your problem, but I would still be concerned. There's something in the car that is draining the charge. You should search the forum because I recall several different problems that other owners have noted.

"into the same situations" is what he meant to say.

there is a problem you just are not taking it to the right place to fix it. if you put an OPTIMA battery and it dies it will kill the battery and you will be even more mad! If the Optima gets below 10volts say good by. Have you hooked anything thats not original Acura parts on your car?

Forgive me if I am just asking the obvious, but do you turn off the car completely?

I only ask because 100% of the time, valet drivers fail to turn off my car (another reason why I hate valet). I've had to get a jump and an apology and gift certificates from management twice.

I don't mean to imply anything. Just sometimes its the simplest things that escape our attention.

There was a TSB on this in the Garage, the original having been superseded, so I guess the troubleshooting procedure has been incorporated. Also, there was a ServiceNew issue that dealt with battery drain. All in the Garage.

Here is another interesting one, since you have an 05

my first impression is that it's just a bad battery. dealer might say it's ok, but I'd still swap it out and put in a new one. it's the simplest and easiest thing to change.

I'm assuming, however, that you've already tried that and the problem persists. If you have changed out the battery - and the problem recurrs - tehn I agree with the other posters - you have somethign that is draining your battery despite the car being turned off.

I'd get the dealer to look at it and try to resolve it. it's an elecrical gremlin

I thought I remembered something about the trunk being a parasitic draw.
Think it was when the trunk was opened by the door button apposed to using the handle on the trunk.

It worries me every time I go to the airport to pick my car up after a long trip.

For the first, yes there was some sort of trunk release issue, for which Acura released a software update to fix the problem. neuronbob also had a trunk issue, although his was something like the trunk opening randomly, and that was caused by some sort of trunk switch install problem (maybe with the rear camera??) But it had the same result in that his battery ended up dead.

WRT to leaving the car at the airport, remember to turn the headlights off completely, and do not leave it in AUTO mode.

The 2007 OM and forward have this warning.

Do not leave the light switch in
AUTO if you will not be driving the
vehicle for an extended period (a
week or more). You should also turn
off the lights if you plan to leave the
engine idling or off for a long time.

I had a parasitic draw a while ago and found it to be the lights in the trunk. You might want to close your trunk and look through the back seat opening into the trunk to see if your lights are still on. If so, what happened to me, might have also happened to you.

For me, part of the trunk mechanism became detached from a plastic piece on a circular switch that tells the car the trunk is closed or open and thus turns the lights on or off.

Here are some pics to give you a better idea of what happened to me.

hey guys

I got a multimeter and when i hooked it up to the battery it was draining 1.1 amps. I was wondering if anyone knew what a normal drain is. I do not have anything aftermarket installed just all stock.

Thanks,

Take it to the dealer. They probably know what the issue is. Parasitic draws were common enough that they issued a TSB for the early RL's

Chas is correct. You need to take it to the dealer. You clearly have a parasitic draw. This happened to me when I owned my RL. The draw was from the trunk handle and it had to be replaced.

I also came across an Acura ServiceNews addressing one type of parasitic draw. Look on Page 4 of July 2008, applies to 05-09 RL and many other Acuras. 50+ mA draw is excessive.
