I was tempted to say "drive faster"

The average speed should be reset when you reset the trip calculator. As you drive more and more miles without resetting, it will look like it has locked to a single value since it takes some radical driving differences to change the average calculated over a lot of miles.

Look the the mileage associated with trip A, if it is really large, then you can manually reset the trip (I have forgotten how, but I think it's in the manual). If you haven't set your trip to be rest with a gas fill, I would recommend it...this is under the personal options in the multi-function display.

I was also tempted to tell my wife to drive faster as well. What we actually found out was that the auto reset does not change the average speed or the average miles per gallon for trip A or trip B. Auto reset merely resets the clock back to zero and resets the trip mileage counter to zero. In order to change the average fuel consumption and the average speed, you must manually reset that using the controls on the steering wheel. The average speed it is associated with trip A.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info Bill. Mine has been stuck at 28 mph for a long time as well (Good old southern california traffic). Nice to know how to properly reset it.

That's weird 'cos I thought that my MPG numbers definately did change after I reset trip A, but I am using the auto-reset option, which may be the difference. After the reset, when I first start driving I see some radical changes in the MPG until a high number of miles has been driven, at which time the average settles down to a pretty constant number. Now I gotta go and re-check what I thought was happening...I have to fill it with gas anyway...I'll post what I find.

OK, the average definately resets with a gas fill, if you have the option set in your multi-display. I pulled into the gas station with an average of 17.8MPG and when I exited it was reset to ---.-MPG initially, then jumped to 5.6MPG as I pulled out and put some distance on trip A.

The Gas Mileage reading does reset, but it appears the average miles per hour does not reset when on Auto Reset. Bill is saying that you have to reset trip a manually to get the average miles per hour reset. I haven't tried it yet, but it certainly sounds reasonable.

I could be wrong about the average miles per gallon. I do know that when you force a reset using controls on the steering wheel, the average miles per gallon does reset as well. But it may automatically reset with refueling -- I'm just not sure of that and will need to look at it again. And yes, the average speed does acquire a manual reset for trip A. A manual reset for trip B does nothing to the average speed indicator.

I can confirm that my post is correct, the average MPG is reset on gas refill (if you have the option set).

Average MPG is automatic, Average MPH is manual.

Yes, and I'll confirm that the average speed is only reset if you do so manually -- press the center button while displaying average MPH. It is NOT reset automatically when the tank is filled.

However, if you reset the average MPH, it will also reset the trip A counter and average MPG. So, if you want those to represent a full tank of gas, reset the average MPH right after a fill-up.

Were you able to confirm how to reset the Average Speed reading on the MID? Does it cause the Teip A Odometer to reset as well?

The trip computer on my 06 RL seems to be a step backwards from my 01 MDX. On the MDX, if you have it "reset with fuel", it clears time, miles and miles per gallon. However, it has a history button which shows these items along with their dates for 5 previous trips. I keep a log book with fuel expenditures, mileage, etc. and it is nice to be able to write this stuff down after refueling. In the RL, the information is partly gone after it auto resets. With all the greater computing power of the RL, I would expect much more capability with this feature.
