Is this taupe or ebony?

hey guys, here is the car I bought. I got it for cheaper then the list price as I mentioned in the othere thread.. Tell me, is this interior taupe or ebony? They list it as "taupe" but doesn't match up to the pictures of taupe I've seen online.... taupe seems a bit lighter! thanks

That looks like Quartz (grey). Was that offered in 2005?

it definitely doesn't look taupe. I have to call the dealership to make sure. I hope they didn't scew up on the pics. I wasn't really looking for a light interior, I prefer the quartz or ebony.

I had to get out my 05 RL brochure to check. The Night Hawk Black Pearl was available with ebony or parchment leather interior. I believe you have ebony in the RL pictured in the attachment. It's not parchment, to dark for that.

Thanks Ernie, I will call tomorrow to confirm. Taupe is definitely a deal breaker, and it definitely does not look parchment at all.

For 05-06, there's only 2 interior colors -- taupe or black. There's no gray or quartz or anything else. Just those two colors.

You need to slow down a bit. $34,500 is a very good price - provided you know what you are buying. Black is Parch/Ebony only - no Taupe ('05 and '06).

Lot's of people selling used will list it as Taupe without knowing any better - although not too many will list an Ebony as a Taupe! I've watched the Golden Valley site for some time and they usually have good deals on used RL's - although yours is the best so far.

Take a breath and understand what you want. That particular car has been up for a while, so it probably ain't going away today.

You'll enjoy the car alot - provided you buy what you want. Good Luck!

Ernie's right, with regards to the specific names of the colors in the brochure.

What I meant, is it only comes in a "beige" kinda color and a "black" kinda color. There's no gray.

EDIT: For those of you not from Philadelphia, please substitute "kind of" for "kinda."

Taupe is light grey, the color of dust. The interior I see in the picture does NOT look like taupe. And as others have said, there are only 3 colors of interiors for the 2005 RL: taupe (light grey), parchment (tan), and ebony (almost black). Depending on the exterior color, there are only 2 choices from the three. For example, the black exterior lets you chose parchment or ebony, but not taupe. The navy blue exterior, on the other hand, lets you chose taupe or ebony, but not parchment.

super_call, thanks for the advice. I know what I want, a dark interior.. just confused on how it looked and how it was described. It just didn't seem as if the color matched the pallette I saw on Acura's site. It doesnt matter anyways. I thought the carfax checked out per my buddy. He called me this morning and gave me the wrong VIN.

MANUFACTURER BUYBACK
OR LEMON REPORTED

sux! I'm going to call the dealer today to cancel and get a refund on my deposit. Sux!!!! But now I know why the miles were so low!

IC. That helps as I've had a hard time finding specific info such as this for '05.

Taupe has a light dash & Wheel those are black so that would be ebony. Nice clor, but it is too hot in Ga for that dark of an interior.

Sorry you couldn't make this work, but it's good you found out about the buyback/lemon thing.

I am living proof people sometimes trade or sell a car with very low miles and nothing wrong with it, but I have to say I'm always very suspicious of cars with only a few thousand miles on them.

BTW, isn't the dealer required by law to disclose this? Or isn't the title marked somehow to show the car's history? It really sux that a dealer can take a car that's been bought back and just sell it like nothing happened.

Interesting, dealer called me this AM and said there are no issues. It was bought back because the headlights had issues. Under california law, they were able to lemon the car under a certain time frame. Acura then replaced the headlights and put back on the market. The dealer is faxing me all the documentation that supports this... what do you guys think? I will get the full story when I get the fax...

Got the fax from the dealership. He sent the Minnesota disclosure of nonconformity:

"The vehicle was returned to the manufacturer because it did not conform to the manufacturer's express warreanty and the nonconformity was not cured within a reasonable time as provided by Minnesota Law"

All necessary repairs and adjustments have been made and the vehicle meets tacceptable operating standards. The vehicle was alleged to have the following noncomformities:

ineffective head ligths

It was then signed by someone from American Honda Motor Co.

If the documentation supports the "headlight only fix" you may want to continue. The issue you have to consider is what will the Carfax look like when YOU go to sell it? If it is going to read, Mfg Buyback" it won't qualify for CarFax guarantee and therefore will scare off buyers, particularly as you'll be a private party seller at that time.

You could mitigate that by purchasing an extended warranty (HondaWorld; reputable third parties etc), but consider that.

If it's me, and I like the car, and have confidence in how it is being represented...I buy it ONLY if I intend to keep it for 5 years at least. Then you're talking about a seven year old car with 100k miles - if it was a Mfg Buyback in 2005/6 - it won't hit you from an absolute dollar perspecitive too hard.

I'm thinking of going fwd with this, Called Acura customer service and they were able to validate. On the disclosure that was signed by Honda, it also gave an additional 12 month warranty. The acura customer service guy says they normally do this, but he also said I'm in good shape because I have the normal 5 year/50k warranty. I will probably keep this car for at least 7 years..maybe more..

It sounds like the issue has been resolved. If documentation from Acura is provided and warrenty is extended on the lights, I don't see a problem. If you're not satisified after owning the RL, get Acura to replace the headlights again.

I'd be interested to find out what the lights were or were not doing. This is the first time I've heard of a headlight issue with the 05-06 RLs.
