Anyone replace the trunk license plate light?
I was wondering if this is a easy mod to maybe switch the light on the trunk that illuminates your license plate to a white LED. I like the look it gives to the Lexus' and is interested in seeing if it's been done before.

There are a couple of threads addressing this. Will have to find them...

Very good thread! Just make sure to be very “patient” in removing the rubber stumps (I broke one which in tale a $6 replacement) and the inner lining clips. The actual bulb removal is very simple and the different between stock OEM blub vs. LED is day/night differences.

Thanks Chas! My little one interrupted me after I posted and I didn't get back to it.

So just out curiosity, this is the most powerful LED I can find in a proper sized T-10 package, a 1 watt LED in Natural White (6000K) with a claimed 60 lumen output and 120 degree beam spread. The color is great, but the 120 degree beam spread is not at all like the 360 degree spread and coverage of an incandescent bulb.

Does anyone know if something like this 5 LED does any better? They are not 1 watt LEDs, and I cannot find any output specs, but typically these SMDs put out less individual light than the 1 watt LEDs. The package size is also a little taller, and so I do not know if there are fitment issues. Too long and the bayonet socket will not fit into the license plate globe housing.

Thanks in advance for your experiences

Burning Brakes
Correct! It is #15 on the diagram. The trick is to tugged them to the far right/left until they match the 3 metal hole indention before pulling them out (which I didn’t find out either until yanking 1 side out and going ohhhh).
You will have to order the replacement from the Acura dealership. $6 is an outrageous rip-off for a rubber stump! But hey, the “brightness” of the new upgraded LED licenses plate lights outweighs the price of the new stump!
