Bulbs sizes for the RL!!!
Bulbs sizes for the RL!!!
I figured i'd contribute to the site by adding a replacement bulb size chart for the 2 gen RL. I seeso many members asking what bulb size goes where so hopefully this would help.

which one is it out of these??? there is a lot of the WLED series.
http://superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html
As far as I can tell, the 194 mini-wedge is target LED. The mini-wedge base is the same for all the different bulbs
194= 147, 152, 158, 159, 161, 168, 184, 192, 193, 259, 280, 285, 447, 464, 555, 558, 585, 655, 656, 657, 1250, 1251, 1252, 2450, 2652, 2921, 2825 & W5W
You then have to select color and physical size to match the approximate envelope of a 2825. I would pick the highest available lumens. LEDs are highly directional vs omni directional as an incandescent bulb, so you may have to take into account number of LEDs and placement as well as physical envelope. SMD (Surface Mount Dode) LEDs are the "newest" technology, and offer brighter lights for the same power, space, or even less space.
Never having made the change, I could not tell you which to select, but finding out the approximate size/shape of a 2825 would be my first step.
You might ask someone on the board. I do not recall ever seeing an actual model number for replacement.

Wow..LED's have come a long way. I didn't know they got so complicated...lol.
I will try to pullout the bulb and see what I can replace it with then.
Nothing is ever easy. A 2825 is a Sylvania designation for an automotive miniature lamp size T3 1/4 with a mini-wedge base. T is the bulb shape, and the 3.25 is arcane lighting measurements of 3.25 eighths of an inch in diameter. That is why an R-40 household flood light is so designated. R is for the reflector flood style bulb shape, and 40 is for 40 eights of an inch in diameter. For the Europeans, the 2825 style bulb is also known as a T10mm (which is the same diameter as a T3 1/4).
It turns out that the mini wedge base is common to many bulb types. Many of the designations we see may be different manufacturer's designations for the same style (T3 1/4) mini wedge base bulb.
A 194 is fairly dim, 2 candle power, it will last 2500 hrs.
A 168 looks the same as a 194, but is brighter, about 3 candle power, and lasts about 1500 hours.
A 2825 looks the same as a 194 or 168, but is the brightest of this type, about 4 candlepower, and lasts the shortest, say 300-400 hours.
As with many incandescent style bulbs, there are halogen versions of them that burn "whiter" and brighter, but are not the high Kelvin of LEDs. These halogen versions are marketed under names such as Philips Blue Vision, Sylvania/Osram Cool Blue, PIAA Xtreme White, etc.
A candle power is approximately 4 pi lumens.
In the SuperBright LEDs, the T3 1/4 or T10mm equivalent in the so called high power SMD type LED, the choice would be the WLED-WHP. However, it is highly directional, with a single LED at the tip. I do not know how it would perform in place of an incandescent 2825 style lamp, which has 360 degree coverage. So this might lead me to try the 8 LED WLED-WHP9-T. This is larger than the envelope for a true 194 style bulb in diameter and height, 2+mm in diameter, but nearly 10 mm in height, which could be an issue...
There are also other companies that offer these types, and it looks like this 1 watt high power LED T10mm would be a direct 2825 replacement. It has the possible unidirectional issue, and then there is a 5 LED SMD T10mm replacement that is a smaller package than the 8 LED shown in SuperBrightLEDs

If anyone does this, please report back with mfg, model numbers, where you bought, etc.

Well I went to Pacific Mall last night and bought the LED's and took my time when I got home and removed the lining in the trunk. LED license plate looks beautiful now
They are much brighter than the stock and emitts a nice blue effect on the ground.
(I just noticed that
is a wish emotion, I always thought it was the gun finger emotion brap brap brap, lol)

But there are other T10 types such as 5 LED or 8 360 degree arrangements.
Thanks
I used a bulb similar to these. It has 6 SMD LED's inside. They are flat at the top but the bulbs inside are on a slight angle to give it the wide angle effect.

I just purchased a 2005 RL and I've been playing around with different Ideas for the front end lights (low beams, high beams, fog lights) I was wondering if anybody had pictures with different lights? Anything would be helpful just want to get an Idea of how different lights look on this car. I've looked around but haven't been able to find much (probably because I'm a new RL owner and new to the scene). Thanks in advanced.
