Add backup camera to 2006 RL

Ive been reading around how to add backup camera to 2006 RL non-tech version but I have some more questions.
My understanding is that Acura does not sell original adapter anymore so is there a way to tap into AUX/VIDEO portion of screen so I can add aftermarket camera.I did find place that sells adapter but its $200.Is there cheaper option or other way just to use video plug.

I just added after market camera successfully to my RL 06 using this DIY, cost less than $30 for everything includes camera.

This is an awesome writeup. @hugous where did you get your camera from and does it have the backup lines? Thanks.

I got camera from Amazon:
Amazon Amazon
It has backup line but not necessary in this case. Any backup camera with RCA will work, I use power from reverse light. The power from navi unit only 8.8 V, not enough for aftermarket camera.

Thats great,I wonder why dont they get sticky for this.Is TSX system same as one in RL???

Once you put it in reverse does it trigger screen to show back camera? Any problems?

If you have RCA input in car (any car) you can add pretty much any camera with RCA plug.Check reviews to see if camera has good picture, try to find something with 600 lines or higher with infrared lights so you can see in night too.
You install camera then run power cable to tail light so it triggers camera once you put in reverse (you can use adapter to tap into existing wire OR you can carefully slide power cable end into tail light itself and make sure its secure so you dont have to cut any wires).Black or negative wire goes to ground or any bolt near by.
Then you have video or RCA plug which you plug into extension cable that runs all the way to front of car into your RCA input in dash (or any monitor with RCA).
Most of cameras sold as rear/backup have guideline and/or mirror image adjustment which it can be removed by cutting green cable where camera is.
Some fancier camera even have adapter/switch to turn them on/off.

It works perfectly fine, it triggers screen when car put in reverse. The thing is our RL head unit takes more than 5 seconds to warm up and display information. Other than that, it works as supposed .
It took me a while to find that thread since no one in RL forum has done it. I decided to give it a try and found that the navigation unit in the trunk looks exactly the same like in those pics.
I also found that only RL 06 and above has camera port, if you have RL 05 you need to upgrade navigation unit.

I suggest admin to make this thread sticky for electronic, navigation section. It's very helpful for those who want to add backup camera to RL with affordable cost.

I'm actually surprised I missed this thread when updating the garage! Thank you, I'll add it to the garage.

07 RL Tech with Backup Camera

The backup camera in my o7 is practically worthless - no guide lines and in darkness worthless. With everything else installed how easy is it to replace the stock camera?

Have you thought about installing LED reverse lights? Definitely helps with the night visibility since they will engage with the camera and light the way so to speak

Did anyone try this? I followed the thread mentioned above about the tsx for my RL as well.

For some reason it is not working for me.

I have rca video ground in 2, RCA video signal at 5, and 6 and 7 jumped together. Any advice?

It appears that I need 8 volts at 1 as well and a ground at 4 also? I pulled my power and ground for the camera from the backup lights. My camera does have a trigger wire that I have not hooked anywhere. Should that be at 7?
