about to lose my mind here need help deciding between the 2

I have two serious cars I am considering. a 05 RL with 43000 miles and certified (it is black with tan interior) $21,700 and then there is a 06 with 36K miles for $23,000. The 05 is suppose to be a clean car and the 06 is suppose to be clean enough to be put on the showroom floor (that is what I was told) http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...aff=national#5

any clue?

go with the 06, they got less problems. It's a small price to pay plus a few extra miles.

Also, depends on the color and trim levels...

05...preowned cert warranty 5yr(from original off-the-lot date according to VIN), 65,100mi. (up from 62K from odometer class action lawsuit). But, 06 options added were backup cam and tech package. Have an 05, wish I had an 06.

why an 06?

you said you wanted a 06 why? if both 05 and 06 had the same options then still the 06? I hate low balling but they called me back and lowered the price of the 05 $500

Since the 05 is CPO (longer warranty), I would do that one. I've had some issues with my '05 but warranty has covered every single item.

Bump them down another $500 on the 05 and move it out the door, if the condition is acceptable to you. Be sure to go for a long test drive, but on and off the highway. Make sure there isn't any vibration or weird problems. Test the A/C too, lower the temperature all the way down and make sure it blows cold air.

Seems like they want to work the deal on the '05, so keep on working it. I only say the '06 b/c of those above mentioned comforts, but can definitely live without them. Very much satisfied with the 05, didn't mean to keep you from a great car. Enjoy either, just let them know how they want to move the "older" model quicker!

06 as long as it's got the tech package

I've got the 05 and don't like that I don't have the rear-back up camera and the other little items they added.

Is the 06 certified? If so, it's not even a question. If the 05 is and the 06 is not, tell them that rather than taking the $500 off the 05, you want the 06 to be certified, that's what I'd do, personally.

It's def a buyers market - I know the Acura dealerships down here are really hurting, and therefore making MAJOR concessions just to move the car - plus, they know that if you buy a CPO car from them, you'll more than likely have it serviced by them - which ultimately is what makes the dealership the most $.

just my

stuff

the 05 is Vandergriff in arlington and the 06 is at a mazada dealership. get this the 06 that looks brand new according to the guys and the pictures you see was traded in on a new Mazada 6 and was suppose to be own by a older couple. The 05 is black with tan, I can really shine black up but silver doesn't quite as get it. I did have a black gs430 before. that looked nice with l-sportline wheels. the 06 is not certified. The car was sold on 9/30/06 so the factory warranty expires on 9/30/10 so like 14K miles on it left of pure factory warranty. The powertrain warranty is insignifcant I believe. The opinion here is that everyone says go with the 06. and when I call dealers (lexus dealers etc) and tell them 05 and 06 05 a CPO they all tell me the 05 CPO (maybe they want to sell something to me or something).

Know that the 06 with a Tech Package means ACC/CMBS and PAX. No 06 comes with a rear back up camera unless it was installed as an option. The 06 has the wiring harness and perhaps a revised head unit (not sure about that part) to accept a camera. While the trunk will physically accept the camera, you cannot take an 06 camera and connect it to the 05 head unit, to my knowledge. One member allegedly had an 05, and ultimately swapped it out for an 06 to get that camera capability.

You can see over 10 pages of what he did to his car before he gave it away. He spent big bucks on this car.

You look for the radar on the grill and the CMBS Off button on the dash

FYI, I installed a rear backup camera into my '05 for about $250. It works great and works just as well as the factory backup camera. It can be done, and rather easily, it just takes some time.

You can't go to the Acura dealer, it's all aftermarket parts.

Chris,

Did installing the backup camera have any effect on your warranty? I've been hesitant to do anything that modifies the center stack/nav unit out of concern that it would void the warranty (and there's just too much tech stuff going on in this car to risk losing the warranty I paid $ for)...so just curious...

p.s can you post some pics of how it looks on your trunk and what it looks like from the nav screen?

Thanks!

Appearently you missed my thread.... I've posted some pictures with 06 camera installed with 07 style.... here u go:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-photograph-gallery-91/20%25-tint-led-backup-lights-s-florida-weather-716392/
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-photograph-gallery-91/07-camera-opening-06-camera-installed-712160/

However, with this camera option, you'll need to have 06+ navigation system.... as for warrenty, if it's genuine honda parts, they won't say anything.... everything else, all depends on the dealership's interpretation....

Go with the 06 and stop agonizing over it! Newer, Lower miles, higher resale, less bugs, better standard warranty plus you can still buy the extended warranty if you decide to. Does the '05 still have original tires on it? Keep in mind a new set is upwards of $1k when all is said and done. Good luck...

$1K tires

you mean $1K for the Run flats? I had a 99 vette and it had run flats and it was about that much to change them all out you should be able to get good tires for like $125 each or so on it? Not the MMX4's or so though

In July 2008, I got a quote of $2100 to change out my PAX, tires only. Demount, mount, balance.

For that money, I can get a decent set of 18" wheels and name brand tires, and get a spare at a junkyard.

Now don't get me wrong. I am currently quite satisfied with my PAX, and think they do a much better job than the stock 17's. But I also have a set of 19's I run in the warmer months.

As long as the 06 is still within the original warranty period, you can purchase the extended warranty to give you extra peace of mind. Or see if the dealer will CPO it for you. If they won't do it, then maybe there is something wrong with the car. I assume you did Carfax and Auto Check for both?

Cpo

mazda can't CPO the car it is at the Mazda dealership as a trade in on a mazda 6. but I think I have decided on the 06 even told them to take $1500 on the CC but so far they haven't charged. Now someone here got me looking at audi a6's but still not impressed enough with it over this. Looked at bmw 550's (I am used to 300+ horsepower on cars) I have been stuck with this 140Hp vw passat for 4 years now and crave power really bad. the car has 181K miles so I don't have 140hp more like 99 or so

A good set of REGULAR 17" tires for the RL will cost you upwards of 1K+ after mounting, balancing,TPMS kit, taxes etc. PAX run flats would cost much more.

Good choice on the '06 and I've had several bimmers. You sound like me I got rid of my 168k VW daily driver with 90hp and very happy with the switch.

i got what you're saying , but i personally cant stand beige interiors and you said you wanted some hp, while the gs is a great reliable luxury sedan, it's not very quick till they bumped it to the gs350. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=104584

05, its the only model with 300 HP, every one after that has 290 HP .

I smoke 06-09's in the dust with my 05.

Plus my car has an after market backup camera and DVD system. I RULE!

^^^You know, of course, he is only joking.

The 290 and 300 engines are identical in output. The SAE just happened to have instituted new hp measurement standards in 2005 which served to take down hp and tq numbers. So the 06-08 have the same "300" hp engine if you use the pre "rev 8/04" SAE standards.

The "rev 8/04" comes from the document J1349 (Rev. 8/04) which specifies the procedure to be used for a manufacturer to certify the net power and torque rating of a production engine.

Interestingly, it just so happened that the TSX had its MMC in 2006, and Honda really did increase the engine output, which is why the engine went up in hp to 205 vice the 2005 and earlier having only 200, and that 200 was measured under the old SAE standards!

finished and picked one

The o5 CPO already got rid of. the 06 I went to look at today. The front of it has some rock chips on it, also some small cuts on the side. the front had a stain in the carpet, the tailpipes had black residue all over the chome and looked like it burnt the chrome off and now it is black. all the manuals are missing and a little wear on the front seat. in the pictures you can't see any of this. Also I don't like being lied to by the sales guy, he changed his story about what the trade was traded in on. I mean trade in a 06Rl for a mazda 6? in the end I didn't like the color silver and the price was only $1300 lower then nada retail and they wouldn't go down. Last night I looked around and saw a car that peaked my interest. The car was a 06 matador red gs300 AWD. The car was advertised has having lots of options. When I went over there and it had 2 more options which were rain sensing windshield wipers and also a $600 clear bra on the front. If you took this car and put it against a new car i couldn't tell the difference between them. I added it up and the car is selling for $5000+ less then nada retail and according to carfax it has been in service every 3-5K miles and it has been taken care of. I don't care for the HP that much since it is slower then the RL but the mpg is 22 and 30 instead of 16 and 22. I plan on putting 250K-300K on the car in miles. I didn't even test drive the thing. I didn't test drive the upgraded nsx either. I couldn't even drive a stick when I bought that one too.
