2005 RL DIY Ballast Replacement

Here's a 2005 Acura RL DIY Ballast Replacement using several other posts

Diagram and instructions of where the bolts and clips are - https://ww2-secure.justanswer.com/up...oval_05_rl.png

Instructions with pictures to remove the bumper - https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2.../#post13347886

(optional) buy clips and push pin puller before starting - https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2.../#post13323085 - i bought four of 91503-SZ3-003, four of 91503-SZ5-003 and one of 07AAC-SJAA100. I think I used 3 of the 8 clips (everyone's situation will vary here)

Instructions below copied from https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-f...4/#post7408767 but altered where needed

Tools
  • Slotted Screw Driver [or push pin puller?]
  • Phillips Screw Driver
  • 10MM Socket
  • 8-10" socket extension
  • (optional) masking tape, rubber band or thread.

Removing Bumper
1. Remove screw in front of each front tire (where bumper meets front quarter panel on each side). (I think this was 10MM bolt)
2. Remove plastic pins from the underside of bumper (4 of them). (Using Slotted SD [or push pin puller?])
3. Remove 10MM Bolts from underside of bumper. (2, one on each side)
4. Remove plastic clips on top of bumper. (4 total i think)
(Optional) Get a 3-5" tall box to support the bumper, this is super helpful
5. Unplug foglights.
6. Unplug sensor need the center

7. Remove bumper.

Removing Headlights
1. Remove Bumper
2. Remove bolts from the side of the headlight housing.
3. Remove two bolts under the headlight housings.(8-10" socket extension)
4. Remove two bolts from the top of the headlight housing. (one of these bolts is also holding the quarter panel, it might not be obvious at first)
5. Remove headlights
6. There are about 5-7 power connectors to remove

Removal of Ballast
1. It's underneath the headlight housing, 3 philips screws
2. If replacing the igniter do steps 3 through 6
3. Remove the low beam cover
4. Turn the igniter to the left to remove
5. Disconnect the igniter power from the ballast (one philips screw)
6. Pull the igniter out of the headlight housing

Installing New Ballast and Igniter
1. Remove the igniter power cord from the ballast and one philips screw
2. Snake the cord through the headlight housing. Use making tape, rubber band or thread to stick/tie that cord to the 8-10" extension to help snake that cord through.
3. Connect the igniter power cord back to the ballast and one philips screw
4. Install ballast (3 philips screws)

Go in reserve where necessary to put it all back together
