06 RL - "M" shifter light up?

Hello -

This evening I noticed that in the shifter area the "M" (next to D) isn't illuminated. Can anyone check to see if that M lights up in their car? It's probably just a burned out bulb.

Thanks!

Yep, the M should be lit up. You have to replace your bulb!

Great, that's gonna be a pain in the a$$ to do. Anyone know how to take the silver piece off to get the bulbs?

can we assume you were in pulled into M and driving? Lights like that usually last the life of a car.

Weird thing I actually don't use manual mode much. It's probably just a bad bulb. Oh well... guess I'll have something to do this upcoming weekend.

If anyone has any tip on how to open the shift gate plate let me know. Thanks

It's actually one of the EASIER pieces to take out. You just open the cup holder and grab the bottom edge of that whole plate and PULL UP. It's held on by 4 clips (one in each corner). That piece around the shifter comes up as one piece with the heated seat switches.

Hope that helps some...

Hey Megatron,

Were you referring to the piece including the heated seat switches or the silver shift plate? I've pulled the piece including the heated seat switches and that's fairly easily. I'm just not sure how the silver shift plate will come off.

This may or may not work...but when I face this issue in the future, I was thinking of trying LEDs. I came across these....

If you decide to go that way, please let us know how it works. Then you won't ever have to worry about bulbs again...in theory anyway

I'm referring to the piece that includes the heated seat switches only. The silver shift plate stays in place. Once you have the piece off, the bulb is accessible on the left side of the unit in the middle (below the silver shift plate). There is only ONE bulb there. It lights up the entire range of gear position indicators.

Hope that makes sense...

I would try those except if I get those LEDs for the shifter gate then the color won't match with other bulbs.... I guess I could change all the bulbs but then that's going to involve welding.

That's actually good news because that means I probably won't have to remove the silver shifter gate. However, if there's only ONE bulb for the shifter then I wonder if it's just out of position enough to cause the "M" not lit up.

EXACTLY! You don't have to remove the silver shift gate to get to the bulb that lights up the shift positions.

So are you saying all the other positions light up and just the M doesn't??? If so, then your bulb must just be out of place because there is only ONE bulb in there.

Yup. All the other letter all light up except for the M... so weird.

BTW, where are you located in Seattle? I'm from Seattle and I recently took my car up there in September. We totally could've met up.
