Unfortunately I have very little time to browse the forums. Ill update you when things are done. Now we have the baseline dyno and he is finishing the final production piece.

Stock was 238whp at the front wheels in 3rd gear

Remember perfection takes time but its worth it!

Mike has thrown some figures around but i'm not sure how close it is since the part has changed pretty significantly. It will probably be in the $800 range though since there are a ton of bends and its all stainless. The power gain is really worth the price though

That doesn't sound that bad actually. Does it include the precats? Considering I also live in california.

As I understand it, the RL has three cats, one on each bank of cylinders immediately after the exhaust manifold (the so called high flow pre-cats) then the flows merge into the J-Pipe, which is connected to a third catalytic converter, then splits again into what we know as the dual exhaust system.

That third cat (but not the pre-cats) appears to be deleted in this true dual set up. I understand that the third cat allows the car to get its EPA TIER 2 - BIN 5 and CARB LEV II ULEV ratings. Deletion of the third cat will probably allow the car to pass emissions tests, just not meet the more stringent EPA TIER 2 - BIN 5 and CARB LEV II ULEV ratings. I think that passing statutory emissions is probably also the subject of some of the testing that ATLP is performing.

Take a look at this link http://www.acuratlparts.com/blog/?tag=atlp

Scroll to April 15, 2010, and see the article on the RL with pictures and explanations.

Oh yeah, I meant the 3rd cat, the one on the J-pipe. Sorry, my bad. But it seems like if they'll be included, there has to be two 3rd cats because it's going to be a true-dual setup..which most likely will not be cheap.

238 fwhp is not a bad result stock.

So we await the final fabbing and hopefully a post-mod dyno.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

So it looks like the results are pretty dang good for just the J-Pipe. With no supporting mods it gained 10-15whp and lost no power down low. The gains start at around 2500 RPMs all the way up to the redline. Mike should be in here at some point soon to post the graphs.

Fairly late to the party, but I won't bother with excuses. Just bad timing on my end.

First graph shows the WHP increase from the ATLP Mid-section on the RL. Because of the increased variables of the SH-AWD system we ran all the dyno's with the rear axles completely disconnected, essentially a FWD RL. Still not perfect, as the ECU pulled timing here and there, but we used a consistent average of all the dyno pulls (over 20+ pulls). This was to minimize the ECU trickery and get consistent results. As Bob noted, the RL put down roughly 235-238whp without any modifications. After installing the ATLP Mid-Section, the dyno graph shows consistent gains of 5-8whp starting as early as 3.5k rpms, and 10-14whp all the way up to vtec where it benefits a good amount from the increased flow with gains of 18-19whp.

This gains are apparent throughout the entire rpm range, and not just peak power, thus mid-range power, one of the more essential parts of your rpms is improved. The dyno graph shows a odd drop in power below 3.5 on both graphs, which is odd as low-mid range power, as well as throttle response was one of the first things Bob noted as a drastic improvement with the mid-pipe. This is most likely due to the ECU trickery of the RL, as other runs showed power in this range, but had other quirks elsewhere.

Torque chart is the second graph. Again, this specific graph was used as it represented a true median for most of the torque increase, but the torque drop below 3.3k is also an ECU quirk. Increased torque starts early and is delivered much smoother up to redline. On average around 8-10wtq is gained over stock, which not only helps the cars WOT acceleration, but more importantly daily driving efficiency in situations such as city driving when you don't want to be WOT, but can use that extra power, highway scenarios (catching up to speed, passing), and of course spirited canyon driving.

Not only this, but overall driving has improved, throttle response, torque and power delivery of the engine, as well as a much more notable, but not in the least bit intrusive sportier exhaust note has replaced the RL's non-existent stock exhaust, while all together blending with that Acura Luxury-Sport fascia. Oh, and you can consider this a great diet for the car, too shedding a good few lbs over the stock components.

I have a hunch that this will not be a part that will make it past 1 or 2 batches simply because of the limited number of enthusiasts. It's also becomes a much more intricate and costly part to manufacture, that we wanted to make sure was designed right, without any corners cut. It's essentially a complete cat-back, minus the mufflers. The part completely replaced your J-Pipe, 3rd Catalytic converter, and mid-sections all the way back to your mufflers. The mufflers from there on are just a few inches of piping and the canister itself. Replacing that isn't going to be much more, and we may do a exclusive run if there is enough interest following this batch.

Pricing will be announced and finalized by this coming Thursday. I've attached a picture of the part itself, next to the stock part. The part we dyno'd also has a cross-over balance pipe integrated into it, which is what the final production mid-sections will have, as well as flex pipes. It's completely stainless steel, mandrel bent.

Please add yourself to the list if you are interested, obviously pending the price. We are only planning on making the number of mid-pipes that are on this list. I don't think a second batch will be made for a while, so if you are interested, I highly suggest you don't miss out on this run.

Just wondering, would a J-pipe version be more cost effective, and produce around the same gains?

The first thing I noticed about my bone-stock car is that very noticeable kick of power starting at 5k rpm

The true dual setup is nice. My guess is the loss of the cats is probably the singlest biggest contributor to the gains here.

It would be interesting to see the results with an air intake setup, since uncorking the "breathing" in and out with exhaust and intake usually works very well together.
