Wow, that J-pipe looks looong. I wonder if it will stick out more than the rest of the underbody components.

The thing is that I'm wondering if there will be improvements on this initial version of the J-pipe for the RL, making like a version 2 of the RL J-pipe. Seems like the TL's J-pipe had two versions, the second one being even more compact and does not stick out from the underbody, yet it yields the same gains.

The stock exhaust actually hangs about 1" lower then the underbody of the car. This will maintain at least that much and might gain a little more clearance.

1" seems pretty okay. I think for the TL, it was rather prominent. Looks like it at least stuck out 3" lower, well, a portion of it.

Fantastic, thanks for the blog!

I agree, the ground clearance is crucial. +3 inches is a lot.

3" would have been near the floor . It was abut 1.25" past the factory J-Pipe, but we have already alleviated that problem and are also implementing the design into the RL J-Pipe system. The factory ground clearance won't be compromised.

Nice. It was hard telling from the TL pics as to really how much it stuck out, my bad. Good to hear though

I'm thinking a month or so. Maybe Mike will have a more accurate date next time he posts in here. I have another mock up appointment next week after he gets some more flanges.

Excuse me for being a tad skeptical but we had a good amount of interest the first time this came about n as you can see I was on the original list and so was a few other members still here and it turned out to be a dead deal so until I see real progress I'll look to other things

The car is back at the dealer again for the transmission issue ive been having but I will get it back again fixed or not to get this mock up done... This time I drove it with the tech and he took some data logs so we will see what comes from that. Im trying guys!

We'll be completing the mock-up as soon as Bob gets his car back from the dealer. Remainder of the components came in so we are ready to finish the mock-up piece on the car, and will then proceed to make a fully working first article.

My problem turned out to be a intermittent transmission range switch which was freaking the PCM out. Ill let you guys know when our next test fit date is as soon as I have it scheduled.

The mock up was fully completed today and I did snap a couple cell phone pics so Mike will probably be adding them to the blog shortly. One thing I have to say is that this should be awesome and make a good amount more power!

Although I don't have any final prices yet, I do have to note that it will not be as cheap as the J-Pipes. In order to create this piece, we didn't want to half-ass it when a full true dual setup was very do-able. It's essentially a complete header back exhaust system minus the mufflers.

Once the fabricator is able to produce a working unit, we will be fine tuning it and running a few more dyno's to make sure the gains are where we want them to be.

keep us posted.
i'm sure more members would jump on this if we don't have to pay for a catback exhaust on top of your j pipe.
in your opinion, are the factory mufflers adequate? or would you suggest getting a more free flowing set?
Do you plan on making a system that includes mufflers or are you leaving that up to the consumer?

Here is a quick picture of what it's looking like so far. This is close to the way the final will be routed.

If we do come out with a cat-back, it wouldn't be a cat-back we would be releasing, but more of an axle-back system as an addition to this.

The factory mufflers actually look very free flowing, as it doesn't look like it's multi-chambered like the TL muffler. It seems that it's a single chamber, and also somewhat straight through, but I will inspect it next time we get it up on the lift, and obviously the dyno will also tell if there is much to be gained from a muffler upgrade.

This is critical info... as a consumer I'd like to see this Jpipe bolt right in with the stock axle back/muffler and work with the existing tune/set up from the factory.

No coffee cans or loud straight pipes for me.

I have a question. So was anything deleted from the stock setup? Like the 3rd catalyst or the resonators?

That's correct. It will bolt right up to the stock axle back.

The 3rd catalysts were deleted as well as the resonators. We will add the option to go with Hi-Flow Metal Catalysts or you may wish to keep them deleted. The 3rd Catalyst provides a good power increase when removed and also does not trigger any CEL lights as there are no sensors. We will also check to see if it passes an emissions test without a 3rd Catalyst.
