Crazy Panning on Navi Map

I have the 2013 RDX with Navi, and I noticed a few weeks ago that when I go to pan around on the map using the joystick it's very hard to control. I bought the car a little over a month ago and I'm pretty sure it didnt have this problem when I first got it. It's now impossible to pinpoint a location on the map. The crosshair just goes off on a tangent with the slightest touch to the joystick.

Does anyone else have this issue? It seems like a software issue more than a faulty joystick.

I actually discovered this after Hurricane Sandy when trying to select a gas station on the map during the gas shortage.

Try zooming in and out and then panning, you may get better results. That's how it was for me.

If you pan while in motion you get crazy panning. I think it is a safety feature to discourage people from being distracted while in motion. I have owned 3 Acuras with navi previously. I never had a problem being distracted by my Navi. I hate this whole "Nanny" navi debacle. It makes the navi pretty useless to me.

^^ It seems that the more we move forward, the more we step backward! We can thank stupid lawyers and their desire to sue for everything....I hate this whole politically correctness, the whole suing greed and don;t even get me going on how we can't display Merry Christmas in public places anymore! I am not sure why a Christian display in a public place is not acceptable....I think I may just move in the forest and live like a hermit and get away from this crazy world we are becoming.....

My RDX is at the dealer right now so they can fix it. They gave me a 2012 TL as a loaner and the panning works perfectly fine on it. Something has to be wrong with my car.

I can't tell from your post whether the problem occurred when your RDX was in motion or when parked; mine pans normally when stopped, but is "uncontrollable" when the vehicle is in motion.

As wizardjjr posted this is supposed to be a feature, not a bug, based on NTHSA's recent "voluntary guidelines," or Acura's interpretation of them, for electronic devices so they do not cause driver distraction. I can guarantee you that I am super-distracted by Acura's implementation of those guidelines, which in many respects seems to be to make the system unusable while in motion. I understand the 2012 Acuras were not encumbered like the 2013 models are, so your 2012 loaner might not be a good indication.

Please let us know whether the dealer is able to change this so it pans normally when in motion, and/or if he offers any explanation. I can always hope that this particular way of messing with us was unintentional.

I got my RDX back yesterday and it still does the same thing. The dealer didnt know what to do other than compare it to other RDX's on the lot, and they all were the same. When stopped it's fine, when driving it's uncontrollable. I guess it's true, Acura doesnt want us to pan on the map while driving. $^%#@%*
