2017 Acura Transmission slipping

Just bought this Tuesday a 2017 RDX tech awd certified pre owned from Acura dealer . 67 K miles .

today when shifting from 2 to 3 the while accelerating ( in auto ) something slipped the rpm’s dropped from 2500 to 1500 , Felt like the tranny was gonna blow up . Jerked the car.

there is a warranty from the dealer I assume they going to address this as per TSB to reprogram software and do the 3 x tranny fluid change .

anything else I should know when I bring it to the dealer tomorrow?

I am really concerned and have no faith this will get fixed from the TSBs

*** I have a video of the speedo and tach while it’s happening just don’t know how to post it here it’s 35 MB *****

Sounds like the Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) playing a part along with the typical RDX jerk in the torque converter of the transmission. It's very common and your transmission shouldn't be slipping already, but doing the TSB and drain/refill 3 times should make a big difference.

I have the same car, except not AWD. Mine will on occasion simply pause during acceleration. It lasts for a couple of seconds, and then the throttle is responsive again. Mine seems to be in the shift between 1-2 as nearly as I can tell.

I have spent a lot of time with the Acura dealer trying to get it fixed, because it's really troublesome. The problem has been that it doesn't throw a code and no one (myself included) can make it bark on command to replicate the issue. It's very sporadic.

I have had the transmission reset and had the three changes of the fluid done, along with the software update that the service bulletin talks about. That may have helped--I really can't tell. It still hiccups, but maybe only once a month. I just have to be careful in timing my merging into traffic. I think it's an electronic issue, but until it throws a code, no one will find it.

Sorry--mine is a 2018, not a 2017. I wanted to correct my error.

Cheers.

Question Drain, measure, replace?

A 3 time drain/refill? On my Gen 7 Accord I could see this, but from what I read about the ZF tranny, you have to be a magician to enter maint mode / drain / fill while engine running and watching for fluid in the view port. What am I missing?

Along those lines, I have seen a reference to simply draining the fluid on the 9 spd ZF, measuring what came out, and putting the same amount of new stuff in. Sounds MUCH simpler. What is the consensus?

RDX is at Acura dealer today , the found a clutch pressure switch throwing a code so they will change that along with doing the Service Bulletin requiring ATF 10 quart fluid change out and software reprogram . Hopefully that solves it , will update down the road .

** on a side note they gave me a 2022 RDX A Spec for a loaner , I can see myself getting a speeding ticket with this thing , lol **

Glad yours threw a code. The way auto repair goes these days, if it doesn't throw a code, they don't know what to do.

Another bad 3rd gear clutch pressure switch.. I changed mine in the fall and the car (2017)has less than 50k kms on it. It has to be a bad batch or something! Btw its super easy to do if you are mechanically inclined!
