Dealer Advice
Dealer Advice
Well the time has come, my tranny is going. Shifting from park takes at least 6 seconds, it slips going into second and a lot into third, been progressively getting worse over the last week thus i have stopped driving the car. The car is a 03' 89k miles, and i did the 3x3 at 60k and just a few thousand miles ago. My family is on their third Acura from the same dealership so i'm trying to get some advice on how to approach the dealer about the tranny replacement. Because i did the fluid changes myself and have no legitimate proof(other than my fluid being nice and pink), im not sure what they're stance on the issue will be.
TL;DR - I suppose i'm just looking for some advice and tips to persuade the dealer into goodwilling me a new tranny even though i have no legit tranny maintenance records.

well from what i understand (meaning i could be wrong) If your car has never had the recall oil jet service done to the tranny and the tranny is original, you can still get a new tranny from Acura....
that would require very specific heat damage be found in order to get a warranty trans off the recall--so its mostly a rumor~
first- are you covered VIn for the 7+9 /109 trans warranty??-
Yes? then stop worrying and get your car in for diagnostics
If not covered Vin- then your purchase history with the dealer will help get goodwill
You did change the fluid, which neats not changed even with no receipt,,tech can tell its been done

Oil-Jet kit was done around 30k miles and unfortunately no my my VIN is not one of those covered. That's mostly the reason i'm looking for any advice, bargaining techniques or points to argue to get them to cover all or at least some of the service. Most of the stories in the tranny failure thread leave out details such as whether they did the tranny maintenance with the dealer and whether or not they were included in the warranty extension recall.
read the last 4 pages of `Tranny Failure Thread` for advice on Goodwill Assistance
you are low miles, out of vin with history of fluid change even if not done there.
the tech can see the fluid has been replaced
Those are good points
you have to start with a dealer diagnosis- agree to pay 100 dollars, but if they do help you out they cover that exam as part of it
Once trans is found bad and why, Service Manager calls regional acura warranty rep and gives your story of woe
Make sure that person-the SM (not just the service writer who has NO real authority in this matter) knows how many acuras your family has, any service done at dealer, your own fluid changes even if no receipt, etc
Show them why giving you a major break on a 4 grand item is a good business decision for them`
Let the SM know you will happily give `all 10s` on card survey and any phone and net follow up surveys!!
go meet the SM in person- plead your need- starving student- whatever it is,
and bring a bit of goodwill on your part- say a box of donuts....goes a long way in getting you some goodwill back
they come back with a yes/no or discount offer, you can ask for more off if needed.
corp covering 75% would be good, more would be awesome!!
