Stereo Settings and Navigation traffic

I just picked up an new FWD RDX 2013 with the tech package. I have less than 100 miles on it but really like it so far. I do have a couple of questions with comments though.

1. I am trying to get the stereo to sound nice. I have everything set to center and it sounds hollow. When I turn on Dolby setting it sounds like all the sound is coming from the center dash and nothing else coming out. I have messed around with the setting but cant seem to get anything that sounds nice. Can someone suggest some settings? Or point me in the right direction?

2. I have XM with navigation and traffic and it is spot on with the traffic for the main highways, but I get ZERO traffic information for the other main roads. I dont expect traffic for back road, but I live in Northern VA, just outside of DC and would expect some of the super busy roads (with three or four lanes) to have traffic info, not just the interstates. Is this working correctly? do I have to change a setting?

Go to the XM website and once there poke around you can look up the exact coverage of roads for the XM Traffic in your area or any other area you expect to travel in.

1.Settings for the stereo are always a personal perspective. While driving the RDX, I set the Bass to 4 and the Treble to 5 with everything else at baseline. Also, put in the setting for MID.

2. What GRDX said. Check out the XM site to see where coverage is at.

In my RDX w tech, I set my fader to boost the rear +1 and fade the front -1, set the bass to about 5, set the treble to near max, and boost the sub. Make sure to turn the center channel down -1 too. This minimizes that hollow sound.

Thanks.

I checked the site and I am getting all the coverage. Too bad because in Northern VA many of the main roads are worse than the interstates. I wish they would expand coverage. I guess I will be using my google traffice on iphone.

I will try out some of these settings for the stereo and let you all know what I find.

If you are using XM for your sound quality test. DON'T

XM is sooooo over compressed and sounds very squeaky and flat. I can't even listen to it at all. Put in a CD or attach your iDevice to test and adjust your system.

FYI - Make sure that your music files on your iDevice are high quality.

stepmback....As others have said, don't use XM as a test for your audio system, use a CD or DVD-Audio. Sound is a very subjective thing but I have my treble pushed to the max, the bass to +3, the sub to +3. I have my centre speaker dropped to -2 (or -3) and dropped the fade just a tad to try and create a more balanced sound. I am suprised the RDX has to tweak its speaker configuration so much to try and create a balanced sound because on my TL, it is just sublime (I just tweaked the treble and bass to my liking).

Look forward to hear how you find it after the tweaks....

I suggest you call / email / provide feedback on the website to SiriusXM on the traffic coverage. The coverage in the Albuquerque area is also dismal - only the interstates and two major roads are covered, where Google for example covers every major road and a number of minor roads too.

I provided feedback to them suggesting they need to expand coverage substationally if they want my money, as it stands, Google's traffic coverage (and others I'm sure) is vastly superior, and its free...
