Need Timing Belt Service?

I last had timing belt, water pump, etc. replaced at 100K miles. Now I have 240K miles. 2014 RDX.

Should I get the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, accessory drive belt replaced again?

I can't do this myself and will have to go to a Stealer. The dealer quoted $1125+tax for all of it. Is this decent price?

Should I got to a Honda dealer instead of Acura dealer?

Thanks.

There is no reason a Honda dealer can't do this service, and really no reason to think the Acura dealer would do a better job. If you prefer the Honda dealer for some reason, or if the price is better and all else is equal, I'd have the Honda dealer do it.

I am getting the Aisin TKH-002 kit from Amazon for $159 and getting it done at local Acura independent shop.

Good call, I suspect that will be less expensive than the Acura dealer. I don't believe the accessory belt is part of that kit, so you may want to talk to the shop about whether that belt replacement is included. I'd probably replace the accessory belt if it were up to me, the belt is not that expensive and labor should be included in the timing belt job.

The bulk of timing belt service price is mostly from labor. It is 5+ hours of labor required for this service. Acura dealer hourly rate will vary but expect it to be about $170 - $180/hour. Thus, labor charge will be not far from $1000. The rest is for parts. Typically, qualified mechanic can do this job between 3.5 to 4 hours.
Indi shop may have lower hourly rate and will only charge for actual hours.

I found they are NOT cheaper than Stealer in some work. For example, the guy I am going to for this timing belt service said his labor charge will be about 600. That is good. I asked him about doing transmission + transfer case fluid change and he said 400 including parts+labor. That is way more expensive than at Stealer. It is hit or miss.

So, I ended up paying $901 for parts and labor.

I think I'd lose my job if I took 3.5 hours to do a timing belt LOL. Glad the OP got a good price!

Where did you finally get it done from? Acura, Honda, or independent shop?

I got it done at the independent shop.

As for mileage, I drive all over the country. Don't like flying. What scares me is the cash I spent on gas.

Seems 7 years keeps coming up on replacing timing belt,I only have 75K on my 2013.The owners manual doesn't mention years'I even called American Honda which only said 100K but no mention of years.I've passed 7 years so I'm getting concerned,my dealer wants almost $1500 for the complete job.

The dealership here quoted $2500 for oil change, timing belt, and spark plugs. (Essentially A 4 as I already had my tires rotated recently) Am I getting ripped off?

I'd check a few more places. That price seems very high.

It would help if you guys would put your location in your profile. Dealer vary, some folks live in the middle of nowhere, some in expensive areas. Suggestions for good independant shops
would be available if we knew where "here" is.
