need advice (tranny)

I have a 02 type S Cl automatic 75k miles. When I'm going around 20-40mph it has a hard time catching gears and jerks real hard when it does. No VSA light came on or check engine light and no D5 flashing. And it doesn't do it all the time but it just started last week. I have appointment at the dealer tomorrow but i don't want to take it and have them look at it and tell me nothings wrong and charge me. (since no indicators are on) Should I wait until a light comes on or take it to dealer? Sorry if this is in the wrong forum or a repost. So many tranny threads

I say take it in, so there is a record of your concern with the tranny, plus it can be a safety issue, good luck, hope the dealer is on their best behavior.

Your tranny is about to die more than likely....depends on the dealer on what they will do. MOST dealers, if they cannot reproduce the slippage will not replace the transmission. I took mine in 2-3 times and they couldnt reproduce it, then one day my tranny went out and left me on the side of the road. Good luck, hopefully they realize that this is a huge safety issue and should address it very quickly

Man, mine did the same thing, no lights, but slippage and hard shifts. It's toast

if you are absolutely sure it does NOT run properly even sometimes, you should take it in. if you car is exhibiting problems synonymous to failing trannies, you should have them check it.
the worst they can do is charge you 75 bucks for the inspection, which you would be refunded when the tranny does give out! of course, they wont offer the refund unless you mention it

Mine did that once, at least I thought it was doing something screwy. When I would slow down, then proceed to accelerate, it felt like it was confused as to which gear to select. I took it to the dealer along with the rest of my dirty laundry. They checked it out and told me it was fine and didn't charge me anything.

I just had my transmission replaced 2 months ago. My CL had about 68,000 miles on it. It would shift wierd when going into 2nd and 3rd. Nothing major just kinda wierd. So I took my car into the dealership (Price Acura) to have the brakes replaced. I just casually told them that trans was acting weird. They said they would take it for a drive and see if they could find anything wrong. After about an hour I got a call telling me that they will be replacing the transmission. I had no warnings, no lights, no noises. So with the symptoms you are saying I am sure there will be a good chance they will replace it. Hope everything goes well.

Just tell them to drive it and recreate the problem.. if it is doing it all the time surely they will feel it and hook you up with a new one... i know thats what they did with me! i didn't have any lights w/ my first one either...

Same thing happened to me, then 5 days later my car had a hard time shifting into 2nd gear. 4 days later new trans installed under warranty.

A lot of people have had several replaced under warranty, usually under the 100k mark, and some people have been able to get it replaced outside the 100k warranty.

Wow! 163K is crazy high. I'm sure it's a long shot though but I'd almost wonder... since you never bothered them about it before... if Acura would give you the 'ole "goodwill" tranny replacement. Seems like it's been good for that many miles. I'd give it a shot. You never know till you try, right?
