downshifting 5th to 4th
downshifting 5th to 4th
only had my CL-S for about 3 months. I use the sportshift alot and when I downshift with that no problem..but if I have it in auto and its in 5th gear, when I punch it and it downshifts to 4th, it bucks really hard and goes nowhere for a second, then finally will go...anyone else have this problem..
Downshift
If you are going between about 60-85mph when you punch it, it's probably shifting from 5-3. Between about 25-60, it's 5-2.
Also, is the engine flaring or hesitating during the second?

Thanks...But I know what gear its downshifiting to. Im only punching it enough to go to 4th gear. So its going 5th-4th and its a hard jerk the car does, then hesitating, then it will go. If I punch it hard enough to downshift TO 3rd, there is no jerk or hesitation, only 5th - 4th.
Downshift
Sorry. Since the change in gear ratios between 5-4 is the smallest, I assumed going into 4th would be smooth. Also, as I'm sure you already know, it's 3rd gear that's our trouble spot.
If you're 5-4 shifts are that rough, it sounds like it's time for a trip to the dealer.

3rd is the problem for CL's? Didnt know that. I had a 95 2 door Legend before this and it knocked really bad going 1st - 2nd, but only sometimes. Mechanics said nothing wrong with it, BUT it would never slip when they were in it. Another question. Say the tranny ends up fallin out in my car at 35000 miles, if they put a new one in, does that lessen the value of my car since it had problems before..Or is it good that its a brand new transmission..
i have the non type s with the sport shift. i noticed the other day that i was merging onto the higway and i had it in 5th on the ss.it did not downshift at all to a lower gear. it took forever to get up some speed. i have an appointment next thurs and need to know if i should waste the $ for fluid change as normal maintainance. is this normal for an 01' cl?
happens quite often on my '02 TL-S (tranny #2)
When the tranny was new (both times), punching it at 80mph would produce a nice downshift to 3rd and the car would just zoom forward nicely. Now half the time instead of a clean 5-3 shift, I get some kind of a hard wobble - as if it shifts down, then lets go... I have to punch it one more time to shift down to 3rd. Not very pleasant sensation, like hitting a bump, only when you hit a bump you bounce up and down. This one makes you bounce fore-aft.

SS Mode
The whole idea of SS is that the transmission will not shift automatically (unless you slow down to a point where it will downshift to prevent lugging the engine; grade logic does apply).
That way it will not downshift when you do not expect or want it to. It is completely normal.
