P1710 Help

CEL is on with code P1710. I could not find much info regarding this code when doing a search. The info I have found is:

- Faulty Gear Selection Switch
- Gear Selection Switch harness is open or shorted
- Gear Selection Switch circuit poor electrical connection

Where or what should I start with in trying to solving/fixing this code? Also, I do have this problem that I started a thread about that may be related to this p1710 code:

i had an acura come in for me to work on (i run a very small shop out of my house but im not your typical shade tree mechanic) but this one threw me for a loop it runs terribly i was told it wont pull a hill it has exessive oil in the intake manifold it has a miss from hell but the only code it threw was p1710 now my scanner says thats for clutch something or other but it didnt list that code for honda if the torque converter lockup clutch is engaging that would cause the rough idle most definatley but as stated above its a pretty straigt forward code (not a symptom code with problem up or down stream) im not expecting people on here to fix my issue just help me understand why this car with clear issues would throw such a benign code oh yeah and i cleared the computer and it didnt run like a top but the missfire had definite improvment it also has an exaust leak near the cat pretty sure a clogged cat and yes i know a clogged cat can cause these issues but why no other diagnostic codes im about to do more research and a compresion check and diagnose the problem the old fasion way but is there maybe a data link issue causing the ecu not to communicate with the pcm and possibly obd port

oh i should have mentioned the wiring to the ignition coils caught fire at one time she said the cars never run right and no one has properly fixed the issue im thinking this may be a pcm issue of some sort

HI Caleb, a few questions:

what year car is this?

assuming it is a 2G TL:

The code you gave is associated with the transmission's clutch mechanism, there is a way to troubleshoot it, and another person with similar problems here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...-steps-977726/

Also, when you say it can't make it up the hill, what do you mean? some kind of problems with slipping?

Have you checked the EGR system to see if it requires cleaning? That's also a common problem with random misfires, unless the misfiring cylinder is consistent, then I would check the circuit for that since you stated that there was a fire at one point.
