Lubricating the Window Regulator

My window has developed a squeak/rubbing sound when I roll it down. Knowing about the problems people have been experiencing with regulators breaking, I would like to lubricate the slider to prevent this if possible.

Can someone who has pulled theirs apart tell me how accessible the regulator is without pulling it out of the door? Can I lubricate it in place after just removing the door panel and the plastic barrier?

Thanks!

Oh, I should add that I suspect the noise is coming from the slider track. Maybe the more specific description will help someone know what I mean.

Thanks,
Chris

I think you can just pull the panel and the plastic barrier.

Check your outside window weatherstrip. Those will make a squeak noise if you get tree sap on the outside of the window. So make sure the glass is clean and verify where the noise is coming from.

mine was making a grinding noise and i removed the door panel and looked inside...everything was ok so i lubricated the window seals where the window slides up and down in and that solved the problem.

if your regular looks good you may just need to lubricate the seals to help the window roll up and down more smoothly and regulator won't have to work too hard to roll the window..

I used a silcone based spray by WD40 from Lowes for about $4.

I bet white lithium grease would have been a better choice.

By "window seal" do you mean the inner and outer weatherstripping?

The inner part that the window actually slides up and down in....i took the WD40 and sprayed inside this so the outer edges of the window could get a little lubricant on it.

I think what happens (at least in my case), the window seizes becuase the rubber just gets dry and it "grabs" on the window making the regulator work harder.

So the lubricant makes it glide more easily...problem solved.
hope it works for you.

My mistake. If you lubed the rubber seals then silicone is the way to go. Good lube choice!

On a side note, my driver's side window sometimes judders or shudders a bit as it goes down. (From closed) it jumps down to about 1/3 open and then judders down to about 2/3 open, where it then smoothly opens the rest of the way. I think something in it needs to be lubricated, but I haven't the slightest idea what that would be.

Sounds like the window seal needs lubricating to help the glass move more smoothly

Which part of the window seal? I don't want to get WD40 on my window every time I raise or lower it, thus making a mess. Do you mean the rubber seal around the upper and side window frame? I've never used the silicone WD40. Is it greasy/oily like regular WD40, or something else?

Inside the seal that the window slides in. It worked great for me. Any excess that come out on the window will wipe off easily. It is "greasy" but that's what's needed to lubricate the rubber. This silicone spray is safe for rubbers. With the window down, spray it in the left and right seals along the entire length the window slides in. Roll the window up and down a few times to make sure the silicone comes in contact with the window edges.

Your description sounds like a drive gear is worn out.
