DIY for transmission replacement?

I hope I don't jinx myself when I ask this question, but is there a DIY for the replacement of an automatic transmission with just another auto transmission?

I tried searching but didn't come up with anything viable. Thanks.

U serious? U need tools that u will probably never use again. Or have friends that do these kind of jobs. It u need a diy for replacing a trans u should do it. Its not like putting on a cai or headers. Lots of time is involved and its a critical part if u were to install it wrong things can go bad on the road and hurt ppl. Leave it to the professionals

Yes. I am SERIOUS.

I have friends that are qualified to do this, but I would like to get the details before we are ever to attempt this sort of thing.

I understand it is not simple and lots of time is involved, thus I am seeking advice/tips/info on here...

Ur gonna need a lift. When I swaped engines in my tl-p. I did it from the top with the trans attatched. A lot harder and u have to be more cautious of the space around the engine. But it worked. Do what phee said and disconnect all electricall connections and hydraulic connections. Take off hood. Use a cherry picker to pull out engine. Do it slowly and have friends on each side of the engine looking for anything that is connected. Also unbolt the down pipe. Ur gonna have to angle the engine to get it out.

That would be awesome and very helpful, thank you.

I understand why theres all the talk and DIY for 6 speed swaps, but with the number of auto trannies that have gone out over the years, one would imagine there would be a DIY or thread about swapping in another auto transmission....

So you just pulled out the entire Engine + Trans, then did everything while all of it was out of the car?

When Acura replaces the transmission, is this how they do it?

The trans will drop out of the bottom of the car. WARNING its very very heavy (one of the heaviest trans i have ever handled) You need to remove the radius rods and the front subframe the bolts that connect the flex plate to the tq converter and the bolts to the motor, axles and it will come out the bottom. If you have an engine hoist to lower the motor to the floor its a fairly easy job. My first time ever swapping in the garage (without the help of a manual) was a 6 hr job start to finish taking dinner and beer breaks

We have just about every tool imaginable to work on a car, if this were to be done, it would be in their body shop, they have a lift also.

Lift, trans jack, and a couple extra pair of hands - you'll be okay. Watch all the funky connectors - they use the top of that trans like a junction box. Colored zip ties / twisty ties FTW. You should probably consider replacing the trans mount while you're at it - they're prone to wear out at 150k+.

Yea, that could be one of the possible reasons...

Either way, the site needs one. It'll be a good addition.
