another solution for my auto CL guys
#601
Hi guys. I just joined because of this thread. Recently got an 01 CL-S with a bad tranny. I got my hands on an 06 AV6 tranny and plan to start this weekend.
Did I mention how freakin' heavy these trannys are?!?!
Thanks to everyone for the knowledge and 411!

OK, was working on the lift and noticed that one of the pulleys was crooked and was rubbing the frame of the lift. Called Bendpak sent some pictures, and a new runway is being shipped out. It should arrive early next week. It all just adds up to more delays in getting this new transmission in!
#604
Well, the shipping company called and said the new runway was ready to be picked up. I loaded the original on the trailer and took it up to the depot and swapped it. I got the new runway home and opened it up. I then discovered that they only sent a runway, no cylinder, no pulleys. Another call to Bendpak and they are shipping a pallet with a cylinder and all the other parts I'll need. They neglected to tell me that they wanted me to strip the runway before I shipped it. Now with Christmas, I won't get the parts until late next week. More Delays!

Well, the missing parts for the lift were supposed to be delivered yesterday. I called and found that the truck had a breakdown, and my package had been misloaded. As far as they could tell, it would be delivered on Monday. I'm supposed to call them on Monday for more details. MORE DELAYS! This is a royal pain!

hey nva av6 i jus got a auto cls wit 50k on it jus wondering if u would be able to fix it and do the oddesey tranny swap for me pm me ur number if possible cuz im tryin to get this car on the road as soon as possible

[QUOTE=NVA-AV6;11616009][QUOTE=friesm2000;11615965]other advantage is that it was designed for a heavier vehicle too, so going to be designed that much stronger
You would think, but not, they are all the same series tranny, only the ECU is programmed a bit different to provide slower gear engaugment to not stress it as hard.
the TL type S 08 thats sh AWD right ?
gardless do any of the models have a limited slip that could swapped?

So far none of the AT trannies have LSD in the tranny, if you even look at the commercial where they do the rolling road they show the fronts as one segment while the rears are independant segments, in other words the rear diff is LSD but the front is not.
#617
hey not trying to argue but then how could it be considered AWD ? an open diff is one wheel drive
#619
Just because its got an open diff doesnt mean one wheel is always getting the power. Sometimes both do. Depends on the situation.
I believe the Odyssey does use a slightly longer final drive ratio.
EDIT - Depending on the year you get will determine what ratios are different. I couldnt find all the ratios for a 2002-04 Odyssey, but the FD was listed as 4.2 while the CL-S is 4.428. The 05 Odyssey has different 4th and 5th gears (.767 and .595 for the Odyssey and .653 and .470 for the CL) with the same final drive ratio.

i just got my car back after getting an '07 auto TL tranny swapped in. not sure if anyone on here has done it but just wanted to give another option for everyone. we all know how the CL trannys are and i saw no point in continuing to get a rebuilt tranny that i knew was going to eventually go out. ive seen plenty of people on here go through 3, 4, and 5 trannys which is why i wanted to go to a later model 3G tranny thats not known for the problems like ours are. i got more performance mods put in so i needed something more reliable.

no problems so far. ive put just over 20k miles on the tranny since ive done the swap back in jan '10.

My Second Tranny is blown
I got one replacement under warranty about three years ago after much fighting with the dealership. Now that one has gone funny. The car has been sitting in my driveway for about 6 months because I refuse to get rid of it. I really miss driving my 2001 CL-s. It gives me hope to see there is a reasonable alternative to another $5000. bogus transmission.
Hey NVA-AV6, any interest in another job? I am local to you. I tried to PM you but I think I have not posted enough to send one.

Thanks NVA
Hey NVA, Thanks for your super quick reply. I got an email saying you PMed me but because I have not posted 5 times, no access for me. That is what I get for being an anti-social lurker. I am definitely interested in the tranny you have on hand and will give you a call tomorrow

Searching for tranny answers
I lost count of my posts I need five before I can PM Nav member about a plan of attack. I found a 2004 Oddyssey Tranny with a year warranty for 1300. I also found a 2006 Oddyssey Tranny with less than 30000 miles for 1000 but no warranty but moneyis tight right now. I want to go with the low mileage tranny but I am worried about the durability of the Honda Oddyssey tranny? After I get my five posts I am sure Nav will help me out with info. I forgot to ask and I did not see it in any posts but if I do a 2004 to 2006 Oddy tranny swap into my 2000 TL will I need to swap the COmputer as well?? Thanks for answering the newbies questions. Also I am covered up at work so if I do not get back right away it is based on my having to log off. Thanks

Well, as of last week the lift is operational. I changed the oil in my Civic and our Toyota Tacoma. With the civic I can get up to the third lock in my short-ceilinged garage. With the truck, I can get it high enough to put jackstands under the horizontal supports. I love it!
Next, wasting no time after the lift was operational, I found a transmission. So Wednesday I drove up to the north side of Detroit (8 Hours round trip) and picked up an 05 Odyssey transmission with 38,000 miles on it, with a 1 year warranty for $650.
Now the Questions:
1. The parts interchange claims the EX-L and Touring are interchangable, and the EX and LX are interchangable. But the two groups don't interchange with each other. Does that matter to us? This is going into an 01' CL Type S.
2. John, at the Salvage yard I got the tranny from, said I may as well change the seals as long as the transmission is out. What seals is he referring to? Driveshaft seals?
3. Some people in this thread have mentioned using a service manual for the CL. Which manual are they referring to? How much are they, and where can I get one?
I'd have loved to have this done at Paul's shop, but Northeast Ohio is a little far from Virginia to do a tranny swap.
The salvage yard I got this from had another tranny for $500 ($650 out the door with a year warranty and tax). It had 63,000 miles. American and Import Auto Parts, they are just north of Detroit and nice to work with. There is another yard a few miles from them that also has one for $500 with 45,000 miles. I found these on car-part.com
Thanks in advance for any advice. I think the wife is getting excited to get her car back now that she sees things moving in the forward direction!

1. Im not aware of any physical differences between the transmissions between the EX-L and EX/LX. The -L is for leather.
2. Axles seals can be swapped out if theyre torn (cheap insurance anyway). I think he was probably referring to the rear main seal.
3. I got mine from Haynes, but looking at their website now they dont have anything available for the CL anymore.

Hey civicdriver, I'm a Civic Driver too.. a 93' cx
The guy at the yard said they were different, but you know how part interchanges work.
I've never changed a rear main seal, it it difficult? Any tricks, traps or pitfalls? I'm sure the best time to do it though is while the tranny is out...
What part number is on your Haynes manual? I really can't see them completely removing the fact that they ever made one for the CL from their website. Maybe I can find one on ebay or craigslist, but the part number from it might be helpful, if you can find it.

well i only have 2 options
07 AV6 150k miles $700
06 AV6 interior fire so unkown mileage $700
im leaning more towards the car with the interior fire as its a better chance that has <100k miles
what you guys think?

skilzz, the yard I got mine from had another one for $500, it has 63,000 miles. Like others have done, you can possibly arrange for shipping. Look at car-part.com and search in michigan for a 2005 Odyssey, American and Import Auto Parts is the name of the place.

thanks for the input. im trying to avoid the odyssey trans since i have no experience with tapping and threading holes and wouldnt want to mess up the transmission case

Sorry, I'm not familiar enough with them to know which is which in the pictures above and not to mention, I don't know where the cap you are talking about is located. I do recall as I read through this thread that Paul (NVA-06), who is a frequent contributor and does these swaps at his shop somewhere in Virgina says that he feeds the power steering back on itself at the rack, it provides minimal feedback anyway. I am currently taking mine apart, I'm about ready to take out the halfshafts. I am writing down all the steps I take and taking a few pictures. I'll know more when I get the trannys out and sitting next to one another as to what is going to be required of the Oddy tranny.
