another solution for my auto CL guys

Man, I dunno how you guys are finding good deals on this stuff. All the prices I've seen from nearby yards are all at least $1100... Of course you can make offers, but if they're setting the initial price at close to $1200 I can't imagine them wanting to sell it for anywhere near $800-900.
Also, I'm sure this has been asked before, but does it really matter what submodel it is? Odyssey EX, LX, EX-L? Are they all virtually the same?

Whats up with RDX owners?

Where are you located? That has alot to do with the junkyard prices. Search online too. You might be lucky enough to find one including shipping for a few bucks less then local yards.
And the LX/EX models used the same tranny.

but not the EX-L? or is the difference between EX and EX-L just one has leather and the other doesn't?
And I'm on the west coast. Oregon to be exact. A nearby yard has one with 27k miles for $1300... Funny thing is they have another one at ~80k miles, at about the same price....

Yea, the EX-L just has leather.

Yeah there's an LKQ around here. They do have odyssey transmissions at about $850. Does LKQ really inspect transmissions like they say they do? Or do they just go by mileage like other yards? Anyone know?

I dont know their inspection practices, but they are pretty good with what they pull.

LKQ is pretty reliable and their mileage statements correct. As of inspecting... there is not much you can test or inspect without taking it apart. Clutch pack wear can be determined only visually and transmission pressure tested only when running + requires testing equipment. No junk yard does that and their claims that they do - are just bs. The only thing you can do is verify ATF color + drain oil and check residue on plug magnet. Just put a drop of new ATF on paper towell and compare it. Dark brown + lots of friction material on the plug is worst but still does not disqualify it. These trannys are always running hot as that hockey puck sized cooler is unsufficient . You can have dark oil @ 30k

They told me they solely go by condition/mileage as their barometer. On my 50k motor they didn't even do the leakdown/compression test they do on motors over 60k.
I did the tests myself before installation to be sure.
As an aside the first motor I got had a broken side motor mount that cracked the case at the water pump as has been posted here & on other forums as a warning to people buying engines from wrecks.
My mechanic saw it immediately & did not accept that motor, they did not give me a real hard time about it and as an apology gave me the lower mile replacement for the same price in the end.

If the vehicle is drivable/startable they will do some basic checks, but if it is not, I doubt it.

No one has an opinion on my post? It's been 9 days and I had another incident close to home. While accelerating on a slight incline on my way home, the engine seemed to surge or hesitate.I don't know if it's the tranny or something else. The car wasn't changing gears when it happened.I'm taking it into the dealership to get it looked at today.I have had no check engine or gear indicator lights doing anything out of the ordinary. If someone has an opinion on what the problem is or info regarding the tranny I mentioned before I'd really appreciate it.

Could you give me some info on what to look for in differences between the older 06 tranny design and the newer 07-08 design?I haven't contacted the salvage yard yet so I don't know if they have a return policy.I'd rather get a tranny with just 10k miles on it that's right here in town instead of getting an 06 TL,Accord,or Odyssey tranny that's halfway across the country. As for the existing issues, the dealership didn't find anything wrong with it.They test drove it twice and put it on the machine.I took it home and accelerating up a hill,it barely made it up the hill.By then I knew it had to be the tranny.I got home and checked the fluid. It was barely in the normal range.Got a quart of Honda tranny fluid and put in it.It still acts up sometimes. The fluid was dark and smelled,so it's clearly on it's way out.I havent had any lights flash yet,and it mostly drives fine, but it's just a matter of time I'm sure.I don't suppose there's any point in taking it back and letting them do a tranny service or examining it is there?Even as I typed that last line,I know I'm an idiot for asking it.

Here's the 06 odyssey I was looking at. The guy countered my 700 offer with 80 delivered to my house. I plan to offer 700 and I would pick it up with a friend. Think I could put it in my backyard and cover it with a tarp?
so you think it would fit paul? The filler bolt, external filter, 3rd and 4th clutch pressure switches looks to be at the same places as my current tranny.

My 02 CL-S trans died in December after reading this thread, I found a 2005 3.2 TL-Base Auto trans for $800. Will be attempting this swap this weekend hopefully to finish by the following weekend. Very curious as to the results this will bring as I was only able to drive my CL-S a couple of times in the 3 months I owned it.

What do you guys think about an External Transmission cooler & inline magnetic filter to help with overheating and the magnet should keep most of the clutch debris from clogging and causing the oil starvation?
Or is that over-kill on the 05 TL trans?
Why does the torque converter need to be replaced, how do they get damaged?

the clutch debris get inside the converter and blocks passages. just like it does in a trans

Thanks for the clarification, appreciate all the help!
If the salvage yard I purchased the trans from includes the torque converter with the trans, do you think I should change it ?
I'm thinking that since these NEWER 3.2 trans haven't encountered the same problems as the originals CL-S
equipped Auto trans maybe there won't be any or much debris.
Can a transmission repair shop flush or pump the debris out of my CL-S Torque Converter?
I'm not expecting TOO MANY miles out of this transmission. I bought this car in October and the trans went in the last week of Dec.
As long as I can drive for more than 15k which is all I have driven on it, I will be satisfied.

Well... I received the 2005 TL trans and it looked clean as hell.
Pulled the CL-S trans from the car and replaced.
After carefully reviewing both tranny's I didn't notice to many differences. All I had to change was the two harnesses that were on the outer portion of the case.
I was able to bolt up the 2005 TL transmission to the engine & all I have to do is attach some clips and finish bolting up the front lower sub-frame.
I'll be back once its started and running!

quick question is this signs of my tranny going bad??
my car started driving kinda weird like sometimes it doesnt shift up to 4th gear when im just cruising around 40mph
and i dont know if this is normal but when im going downhill around 40 mp/h the tranny stays in third gear and revs up to about 2000 rpm
and this is in normal mode of course if i change to tiptronic i can make it shift manually to 4th gear but im just wondering if this is normal

Looks like my tranny is ok after all. After putting in the quart of fluid,it acted up just a little that night. After that,it stopped slipping.I went ahead and changed out the fluid and I'll probably do it again in a month or so.It hasn't slipped once since then.Fingers crossed, wish me luck.

On another note. I got the car running and just did a trans flush on her and it was pretty dirty in that tranny.
Now I noticed my Shift selector is fcuked and need to find one to replace it. It like un aligned and I have to pull to the pass side a little to make it shift through the gears.
On top of that its not indicating what gear its in on the dash and if I hold it between gears it will then light up...
Anybody experience something similar?
