2003 CL Type S Automatic, Fuel Pump doesnt seem to start
Hi, I'm sorry if this issue has been talked about enough multiple times but I inherited my uncle's 2003 Acura CL some 2 years ago. I believe this was an issue then, albeit not as prominently.
The car cranks perfectly healthily and I recently got the fuel pump and filter replaced a few weeks ago, but it still has an issue starting sometimes. It happened when I made a run to the store and got back to the vehicle. it had half a tank of gas and had been sitting out in the sun while we were inside. It was a cool day outside but this was in the afternoon (2-3PM). The car cranked at first but had an odd sputter and wouldn't fully turn over. I ended up opening the windows and doors to try to cool the interior of the vehicle to see if it might help but to no avail.
I've had this same issue before during the summer and the transition into the fall on a hot day. The vehicle wouldn't start fully with roughly 2/5ths of a tank of gas. I came back another day in the morning and it started just fine when it was cooler. It failed to start when I tried it in the middle of the afternoon. This was before I had the fuel pump replaced, however, so I assumed the problem fixed; but I guess not.
If I had to guess, and from the input of some of my more knowledgeable friends, it might be an electrical problem? I've had my head set next to the trunk and had someone else turn the vehicle on and have failed to hear the distinct hum of the pump turning on when it most recently happened - after being replaced.
Thank you to whoever may be reading my question/concern for your time. I'm not personally as competent as your average car enthusiast but I'd like to try to find the issue and get it amended because the car means a great deal to me coming from my uncle.

Try replacing the fuel pump relay. The thread below talks about it.
