Weak Starter?

Anybody else's starter sound like a dead cat?

Mine turns over quite slowly, has a bit of a whine, I'm not sure if this is normal. I drove a friend's Odyssey with the 3.5L V6 and it definitely turned over ALOT faster, with no whine.

I have a feeling my starter's on it's way out. I've already changed the battery recently. Has anybody replaced their starter? Do you need to remove the axle to get it out (like the older 3.2TLs)?

Or do these cars normally turn over quite slowly on starting. I don't have anything to compare mine to.

Thanks!
-Mark

Mine is slow to start. I want to do the "Big 3" upgrade.

On a side note, what year is your CRX?

Battery is Brand New (like a month or so) from Acura, and is a lot more CCA's then the factory one. I don't think it's the battery.

I notice sometimes after driving, and parking for a few minutes, it's even slower to turn over.

It's obviously starting fine, just worries me that one day it's just not going to start. But if it's just the way it is, then I suppose I have nothing to worry about. Colder temperatures don't seem to have any bearing - starts the same.

I was thinking maybe bad grounds etc., but if everybody's in the same boat it's probably just the design.

My dad's BMW Z4 sounds almost the same on startup.

It WAS a 91' Si-SE with a B16 and some SiR goodies... but a few Canadian Winters took their tole... so I parted it out.

Just haven't changed my online nick.

By the "Big 3" upgrade, are you talking upgrading to the Big 3 Engine, or retrofitting a 3.5L starter on the 3.2? Is this common knowledge or something?

Search for Big 3. You swap out power/ground cables and it supposedly helps out.

My CL is difficult to start shortly after I run it. Don't know why, but it pisses me off.

I have noticed that since I installed the underdrive pulley it starts alittle bit easier. Not much, but it's noticable.

The fuel pump takes a sec to prime. Try turning it to run for a sec then start it.

Clearly I'm handicapped, I can't seem to find any info on this.

Could you help?

Thanks!

I'm talking to everyone. The car starts hard cause the fuel pump is priming.

It could be the starter as well.

All 3 of my CL's cranked a bit slow compared to other cars.

Yea, I meant that mine cranks slowly after it sits for a short period of time, not difficult to start like it won't turn over or anything.

A quick google search for Big 3 Upgrade got me this:

It made a difference in my car. After removing it mine starts noticeably slower so I am putting it back in for sure.
