Unhappy Type S CL 3.2 or CL 3.2 ???? plz HELP!!

guys, i kno ya'll r experts please give me some advise.

i just sold my integra coz i fell in love with the 2001 TL coupe. after weeks of researching and cruising around i finally found 2 CLs.

1. $CA 15000 year 2001, 3.2 CL type S. With 260 hp around 100k clicks

2. $CA 12000 year 2001, 3.2 CL (normal one). with 245 hp around 160k clicks

the interior and exterior are almost new and both similar.

-which one should i buy??? if i go for the type S then i would need to work extra hard for that extra money and im scared that its too expensive.
-the normal one is a little better but im also scare that after a few years when im done university the clicks would be too high and resale value is too low...
plz help me
thanks guys

I always say "Watch out for your Clicks!!!"

I asume that means kilometers? That crazy Canadian measurement.

The Type-S is rated at 260hp, ad the CL-P is rated at 225hp.
It would be easier to sell the Type-S if you do want to get another ride in a couple years, especially considering the miles... Err kilometers.

As far as the CL,

1st choice - 03 CLS 6 speed (*biased opinion)
2nd choice - any CL

Go with the one that wont hurt your wallet so much if money is going to be an issue. You gotta think about insurance as well. I'm assuming the Type S is going to be slighty more to insure.

Type-S!!!

I test drove the CL-P first then the CL-S, never gave the CL-P a second thought. But stay away from this forum if you're not planning on modding the car. I am slowly getting sucked into it from just reading the cool stuff people have done.

for a 2001 car, 100k km and 160k km "clicks" does not make a very big difference does it?

or is it too high?

I don't know where you looking but I have seen several 01' type S models for sale in Socal with less mileage for these prices so I would forget about these and look again. Unless these have some type of Mods that make them worth it.

Its Canadian dollars and Kilometers, so you have to convert first then compare.

100k KM=62k Miles
160k KM=99,500 Miles

$15K CA=$12,900 US
$12K CA= $10,300 US

I would get the Type-S, not only is it more powerfull, its a better deal since you still would have a little while left on the tranny warrenty.

OOPS, I thought CA was Calfornia. In any that case the type S is a steal for because of the miles, clicks or KMs and performance. Don't think twice about it.

Why is it that every time some one brings up buying a '01-'02 CL-S, you 6 speed guys always have to chime in.....
"get a '03 6 speed...... get a 6MT......etc..."

An '03 6MT is not one of the choices....

Hey buddy, there's a reason why the 1st car is for sale with "around 100k clicks". The warranty has just expired, which means if the transmission blows up on you, the dealer won't be replacing it anymore. If you do a search on this forum, you'll quickly see that the most common problem with CLs (and TLs too for that matter) is that the automatic trannies blow up. There's no fix - they just get replaced by the dealer - for as long as the car is still under warranty. The guy/gal selling it knows this - that's why it's for sale.

My advice: don't buy a 2nd generation (01,02,03) CL with over 100K "clicks". You're just begging to get f*cked over. Save your pennies until you can buy one that still has drivetrain warranty. Or better yet, get the 03 CLS-6 which comes with manual tranny, free of grenades!

Good luck!

try to follow along...100 "clicks" as in 100,000 kilometers....lots of miles left on the tranny warranty

If you're currently going to university I would be smart and buy neither cars. For a few thousand you can get yourself a decent A to B car and save the rest of the money for other MORE important things like taking a well deserved vacation somewhere HOT!

I'm one of those '6speed guys' you talk about.

I always figure that a newbie to the CLS probably doesn't know about the 6 speed version. It's not like they sold that many or it was promoted much by Acura. You'd be surprised how many car salesman don't know about this version.

The automatic CLS is a good car, the 6 speed is more fun if you don't mind shifting or worrying about your tranny.

The Type S is the way to go. You will at least still have some time on the tranny warranty.

I know. But in Canada, I believe the drivetrain warranty only goes up to 100K kilometers, not 160K which would be equivalent to the US 100K mile warranty.

Isn’t the rest of the world using the metric system except the United States and a few Caribbean countries?

Agreed, save your money and pick up a beater. Buy your ride upon graduation.

No, my extended warranty documents from Honda Canada state 160K km’s.

If you are deciding to get one, go for the TypeS. Best advice, pick up a beater and wait till you finish Univ. When done you can grab an even better car. UNLESS, $ is not an object for you at this point. They by all means, TypeS it up yo! :P
