Tunes turned up, so are the windows. A/c on and accident avoidance.

I don't know what the hell happened today in Arlington Heights, Il today, but it must have been horrific. All I heard were sirens for twenty minutes straight.

I was at the last stoplight, westbound, on Euclid avenue, which becomes a three lane street after crossing route 12. I noticed a chick behind me with the car closed up and you could she was groovin to some tunes.

The three lane is a westbound, an eastbound, and a center lane which is turn either way. My windows were open. It was 85 out but the humidity was low, so it was ok. Where I was at, the speed limit was 35.

I hear a siren and check the left outside mirror. Here comes an AH cop, screaming sirens and all lit up. Was he doing 60? absolutely. 70? I really think so. 80? Maybe. All in the center lane.

So, I pull over and stop, and the gal behind me looks confused. Not like WTF, you idiot!, but WTF. The cop is closing at a mighty rate of speed. I first saw him ~5 blocks back, he was now 1 block back.

At the very worst time, I checked my six in the rear view mirror, and here is this chick, cranking the wheel to the left to pass me. She, at a reasonable rate of speed enters the center lane with about half of her car. The officer evades to the far left lane (eastbound), which thankfully was empty. If he missed her by two inches, I am over exageratting!

After the officer passed, all I could see was the girl with two hands over her mouth. She was frozen in fear. I was right near a corner, and pulled over and parked the CL. I ran back to her, and the horns, they were a honking! I just opened the door and told her to get over to the passenger seat. Drove her car around the corner, and sat with her for about 5 minutes before she could drive again.

When the cop made the evasive maneuver to avoid her (to the left), there was SO MUCH air between the top of the right side tires and the wheel wells, I think the right side tires were about to lift off the road.

We don't need to discuss ditzy broads or speeding cops here in replys.

Point is, if you isolate yourself with windows up, A/C on, and tunes up, you are depriving yourself of an important sensory input: hearing.

At worst, if the cop would have hit her, her left front fender would have slight damage, but the cop car might have lost control.

Be careful out there!

your absolutly right. That's why they say if your driving in foggy weather you should put your windows down so you can hear stuff(road noise, horns, screeching tires, ect.)

just a side note... Did you get her number?

You mean after the cop passed her, she freaked out and just froze while her car was moving? Is that why you jumped in?

People need to be more awake...grooving to tunes cranked up definitely is bad. Need to be more awake! That could have been bad news for the cop!

GRS: she stopped just after her car was halfway in the middle lane. This is why sirens are designed to be so loud. At one point, you can't ignore them. And no, she was stopped when she caught her mistake. No number, no interest in her.

Did she also not check her mirror before trying to go around you? I'm with you on the stereo thing but seems like she was also not paying much attention with her eyes as well. I usually don't crank the tunes unless I'm on the freeway for just that reason. I also turn the stereo all the way down and roll down the windows if I'm in a parking lot where people are walking and cars are coming from all directions.
