Thumbs down Tranny took the dump.

So my tranny finally decided it was time to go. 2001 CL-P 76000 miles. Took it into the dealer to see if i could get a goodwill replacement. I'm 2 months past the 7 year 9 month warranty. They say the best they can do is a 75/25 split. They also want to replace the front motor mount, which i havent looked at, but i belive the consensus is that our motor mounts also fail pretty regularly, so i'm sure it does need to be replaced. They also said i need to replace the ecu, or ecm, or something is this true? It's an extra 650 he said.

Long story short my responsibility is just short of 1200 for the tranny, ecu and motor mount to be replaced. What do you guys think, good deal? (as in i should be lucky i'm not paying the whole thing) Opinions please.

Damn, sorry it happened bro. But before you go with that dealer try a few other dealers in your area. One of them might be a goodwill dealership so definitely try out a few other places first.
But as far as paying $1200 for the tranny, new ecu and motor mount, thats a good deal.

Good Luck!

Thanks everybody for the info. He's telling me that the ecu is an extra 750(dont remember exactly what he said) on top of the tranny. Hmmmm.

The total for me is 1176.34 out the door. 1004 for the tranny/ecu goodwill (my 25%) and 156 plus tax for the front motor mount. I'll question him about the ecu some more. I'm sure they're already tired of me trying to negotiate w/ them, but if the ecu is part of the tranny rebuild kit and they're trying to slip one by me, i'm at least going to ask.

BTW if anybody has anything to add, go ahead and beat my horse, as much info as i can get the better.

PPS i know i'm getting a good deal for the whole package, and belive me, i'm counting my blessings. but i definatly dont want to pay the 750 for the ecu if it should not be an extra charge.

if they dont charge you for the PCM/ECU then get it as part of the package. if they are charging you an extra 750, then i would forget that. I was told the "new" ECU has modified shift points so it takes it easier on your tranny. but also heard that it kinda makes the performance of the tranny a little more mushier.
personally, i'd rather have a hard hitting tranny then pay 750 for a granny tranny

the ECU/PCM does the following

1. Increase the 5th gear engagement speed
2. changes shift pressures and points
3. reduce performance to protect 3rd gear

i know i would risk another tranny, but to me the added performance is worth not getting it.
beside your not even sure how much longer it will save the tranny if any. if i said the tranny would like 5 miles longer, would you get the updated ECU/PCM?
although if the dealer says they will not warranty the tranny without the updated ECU/PCM, then of course i would get the new one.
