TLS handles better than CLS?

I read somewhere on this board, the TLS is either supposed to handle better or have better steering wheel road feel than the CLS.

How's this possible? I thought they were identical cars- with a few distinctions (grill, butt end, doors, and fog lights)

this may be true... but:

you can also find on this board (and acura-tl.com) assertions that (1) the tl-s weighs 100lbs less than the cl-s, (2) the tl-s was going to have 270hp vs the 260 in the cl-s, (3) the tl-s was going to have "torque-sensitive" power steering vs the "speed-sensitive" system in the cl-s, (4) tl-s was going to get body-colored door handles, and (5) the tl-s was going to come with a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission.

all of these rumors have proven to be false (at least with the 2002 tl-s).

so, I'd wait and see, and I'd take minor differences in performance and handling with a grain of salt - these cars are going to be very evenly matched no matter what.

I still think it interesting that the tl-s is running 17x6.5 rims vs the cl-s' 17x7 rims. both cars run the same size tires, though.

The handling on the TL-S WILL NOT be better.

The suspension/chassis is exactly the same...

The TL-S doesnt have the Torque Sensitive Steering like suspected.... so the steering is the same.

The TL-S has SMALLER (width wise) wheels... that will adversely affect handling.

So lets all stop worrying about the TL. Comprende?

well, TLS has a longer wheel base and a bit heavier than CLS, which means more stability... while everything else is the same, therefore I would expect handling to be a bit better... however, I won't put my feet down firmly until I test drive one.

They will have one today for test drive. I'm going to do one, so I'll let you guys know. I looked at one last night, and I'm not seeing much difference. The cleared lights are nice, the front grille's been changed. The lights have a rounded cut out for the high-beam, and the inside the grille is a lattice-work. The fogs look nice, but I didn't get to see them on. The interior is exactly the same as ours with the exception of the adjustable seatbelts (which we STILL need), the vents in the back of the center comsole...and that's pretty much it. I don't see the big deal, for CLS owners, but for a TL buyer, yeah, I'd get it.

I'm not so sure that heavier=better handling.

and I'm not so sure that a longer wheelbase equals better handling... better ride? perhaps.

uu: if longer equates to better handling, then would a suitably equipped limousine outhandle shorter wheelbase cars? how 'bout a crewcab f350?

heheh, you guys stretched what I said too much, i said better stability... lots of cars try to push their wheel further apart so more mass can be concentrated between the wheels, look at Bimmer, the front wheels are placed pratically right behind the headlights (well, it is RWD, so they can do it)... this does contribute positively to handling if not lot.
