Well bmw tells me to change the oil every 15k miles.
But I rather fuck a goat than listen to them. This car has to last me a long time, and im thinking the bmw engine burns more oil than normal. So i was wondering ya think changing oil every 3k miles with mobile 1 or castrol synth. is over doing it?

i think they are saying that the engine nowadays are much better then the old ones, so you don't need to change them as often. but you can always do it earlier then schedule. but if you're using synthenic, you don't need to change it every 3k. i believe you can change it every 7.5k.

Hmmm... I thought the bimmers use synthetic oil and have two oil filters. A normal filter and some type of a micro-filter???
From what I've read there is no reason to change the oil in a bimmer every 3K miles... I'm sure if there were issues with letting a bimmer go 15K without an oil change, the issues would have been uncovered a long time ago...

It all depends on driving style, I mean the type of driving. With 90+% interstate driving, you can go easily 7k +, but under city, stop and go, 3k max. My car has an oil life monnitor that actually calculates out ffrom temps and drivng style how long the oil is good for.
I dont know that BMWs have this, but in the event u cant change the oil too much per se. Always safe than sorry.

Are you sure the oil change lights actually take the temp and driving style into account? The eddie bauer explorers just use the miles to tell you what percent of clean oil you have left and not how you drive

It depends. The very first oil change is the exception because it has factory oil that may be geared towards attracting more deposits than normal?
well here's what i mean, I found this quote from the TL board:
Not sure if it applies to your Bavarian Mechanical W___ but food for thought.
well here's what i mean, I found this quote from the TL board:
For the elevated copper levels, he had this to say:
Copper just tends to run higher on the Honda V6s (as do chromium, lead, aluminum, iron), but yours are fairly out of range at your respective mileage points. Since you went synthetic so relatively early in both vehicles, it has taken your engines a longer time to truly break in and why you are still showing such wear. In addition, from my experience with these lab results, filters are stressed a lot in Honda engines. In my dad's TL I am using Amsoil Series 2000 0W/30 for a year with oil changes every 4 months (similar driving conditions to your Odyssey) with an oversized oil filter.
