Tempo Oil Extractor

Hey Guys,

Just got one of these last week and got a chance to use it this weekend. It works really well. I also used my sidewinder ratchet with a filter wrench and was able to get the filter out through the wheel well without hardly bending over. The extractor sucked all the oil out in a minute or two and I assume it got it all because I put 4.6 qts in and it just brought it up to the full mark on the dipstick.
Then I used it on my wifes Jetta which is also supposed to hold 4.6 qts. Well the oil kept coming and I had to dump the canister (5qts) and suck some more out. I wonder if the pan is shaped so you don't get all the oil out when you drain it. I put 4.6 qts back in and it was showing about halfway on the dipstick. Strange. Anyway I like it. Makes draining the oil a lot easier. (the filter on the Jetta still sucks to get out). I got it from. allaboutboating.com for $44.

That thing is amazing...we have a couple of them at my job. We use it to suck the water out of the bottom of our in-ground lifts during the winter. That way all the water doesn't mess up the oil on the cylinders and the car falls on us

My parts manager uses it on his civic w/ a welded shut oil pan for oil changes

I like mine. No ramps or jack. The filter location is great.

FWIW, can't get a lot out of the tranny with it. But, the tranny drain can be easily reached from the side.

I like my extractor too. I have the Griot's Garage version, but it's basically the same thing. It works great for the Acura.

It doesn't work well at all on our Subaru Forester XT. I saw this warning somewhere out there on the web and verified it--Subaru puts a small baffle in the oil pan that prevents full extraction from a top-sider device. After what seemed like full extraction, I drained from below and there were still 2 quarts left. Subaru engines were the only ones that got a potential warning about this method not working.

I think there are a few others listed on Griot's Garage that won't work with the extractor. I can't believe it sucked 5+ qts out of the wifes car. It's quite handy.

He he. Yeah it does. The only one I regret buying is the "Hub Shark" This thing is basically a manual screw-type press for removing wheel bearings with the strut still on the car. (I got it for an Audi). Well it said to use an impact wrench to turn it but I didn't have one. It took about 1/2 hour of cranking with a 3 ft breaker bar to get the bearing out and then another 1/2 hour of cranking to press it back in. Ouch! It worked though. I think huffing and puffing on that think at 1 am on a work night is what made me decide to get rid of that car and get something newer.

Old Forge sells the "hub Shark," yeah I wanted that too, ended up getting the Proto master puller set. One time I took apart my Accord hubs with it, kinda like the instructions described on the hub shark ad. I take the hub to the Honda dealer and tell him I need a new seal, he says "no you need a new bearing, what you have there is just one half of it." All this to get the rotors off. At closer inspection I found I didn't even need to pull the hub to get the rotor. HAHAHAHAHhaahah! What a mess! A chisel and hammer worked to get it out, nothing like shattered steel flying through the air!!! Yeah, I used to be a mechanic, go figure. Did you see that at www.sktoolstore.com ?

Oh yeah pulling bearings is good stuff!! I can't remember where I got the Hub Shark. Might have been Tool Warehouse or something.

Close but no cigar, the biggest one I've found is only 7.5 quarts http://www.ntxtools.com/lubrication/vac151071.htm Gotta have a large air compressor to use it also.

Here's one you can hook to your battery.
