Short Shifter Project Complete w/ PICS

After contemplating for a couple months on how I could make a true short shifter with the height and throw both shortened. I finally decided to take on a project by having the Neuspeed adapter and then shortening the height of the rod as well. Big thanks to Ethan (transmission), Chris, and Allen for all the help.

I didn't take a picture of how it looked stock, but here's a pic I found:

Taking everything apart

Stock Rod

First Cut

Everything out

Chris cutting the rest of the rod

Ethan amazed

Me even more amazed

Welding it back together

Final product

We cut about an inch off the rod and welded it back together. The shifter is AWESOME. The throw is a lot shorter and the rod looks a lot better like it should have came stock. I am definitely happy with the outcome.

Damn. I was thinking about doing something similar. I think I like the welding method better though.

How long did it take you to get the shifter assembly out of the car? Install?

i'd say 2.5 hours for the install/weld. We got there at around 7 and left at about 9 or so.

30 mins to take out the shifter assm.

1 Hour to "saw-off" and weld

30 mins to re-assemble

That's cool. If your happy with it. I wouldn't have gone through all that. I thinnk the NS kit with a shorter knob is a good combo.
Props on doing something others haven't

He has the neuspeed SS in there now. Shortening the shifter rod was the best thing for that car IMO..

Damn thing looked like a telephone poll before we cut it LOL!

Cool mod, I'd like to shorten the shift too.
that's my car in the first photo, I have the TSX knob, it has the red shift pattern, whereas the S2000 knob has black lettering.

your right. i meant to say embedded s2000 knob, i forget if thats the term.

they look something like this:
http://www.ricks2k.com/products/shiftknob.php

the threading goes all the way inside the ball, so it lowers it a little more.

Damn, that's nice as hell. I'm surprised that no one else has performed this operation. Seems fairly simple. That's about how short the shifter in my Accord was. I miss it.

Neuspeed shorten's throw, not shifter itself.

oooh.....ok.....that really sucks...so the only way to make it short is that method...which is not too bad if you have the place and supplies.....but if not it sucks tho...

cool, can you take pics of it from the side? I want to see how low it is. I have a Ricks s2k knob and it's pretty low because of the counter sink, but that must be killer low.

So instead of putting towels all over the place... Why not just pull the whole thing out in the first place?
