Security for Xenon lights

THis past weekend someone stole out the lights from my 2003. This is obviously going to cost me a good deal of money to replace. Is there any type of security that can keep my lights from being stolen?

Yeah, Viper, Clifford, any other DEI product or a very sensitive shock sensor.

If you do use a very sensitive shock sensor, don't set it too sensitive, cuz ricer flyby's can set it off....I had a shock sensor and these queers at school always set off the alarm

I'm not looking for a security system. I'm looking for something to prevent my xenon lights from being taken out.

Security system = shock sensors = protecting your HIDs

hah ... Maxima owners have just as many if not more problems with stolen HIDs than we do. Nissan is being sued by the state of New Jersey right now because of this problem.

Nissan has done a few different things to prevent the problem, including adding security screws, and adding a unique tatoo on each headlight to identify who it belongs to.

The biggest problem with the security screws is that thieves don't usually try to remove the headlight casing all nice and in one piece, they usually are just after the ballast and the bulbs which is where the money is. The headlight casing isn't really worth too much money, especially because it really only fits TLs.

For our TLs, I believe most thieves kick the bumper off of our cars (easy to do because the bumper is only attached using a few tabs, its not screwed on). They then proceed to use a crowbar to remove the headlights. Pros can usually do this in under a few minutes so its a quick and clean get-away.

With the NHSTA banning aftermarket HID sales the demand for black market HIDs is even higher than before which creates a large problem for Maxima and TL owners.

In other cars like BMWs and Lexus the ballast is set back further inside the car, making it much more difficult to steal the HID ballast and bulb, which is one reason you don't hear about HID theft in those particular cars as often.

Hope I didn't just tell a wanna be thief how to steal my HIDs

Lost my headlights a couple years back, looked like they put a crowbar aginst the quarter panel and popped them out -- never removed the bumper, but it had to be replaced.
Needed both quarter panels replaced as well and the hood resprayed. huge bitch.

like ~$5k billed to insurance...body work looks worse every year. screwed on that one, I guess...

At the time body shop said they were getting 30-40 acuras/month w/the same problem --yard was full of 'em.

The cop that checked out my car said that Acura is having the biggest problem with this. He said someone can literally take the lights out in 2 minutes.

The problem with any kind of security screw, plate, bracket is that by the time they rip off your bumper, pry your qtr panels away, they've pretty much done most of the damage.

you can install shock sensors to the factory alarm. not expensive, but effective. this way you dont have to spend $500 on a clifford or void warranty.

the factory alarm is good, but does not have glass/shock sensors...just door/hood/trunk pins.
