Seats that "creack"

My driver's seat is starting to make a creaking noise when i get in and when there's excessive lateral movement, especially to the right. it's not the leather, it's somewhere on the rails or rollers.

i haven't had a chance to inspect what caused the actual creaking noise yet, but those who have had this problem (acura techs), what did you do to fix it? lube/grease? and if so what kind of lube?

do you know what they did?

i don't have time to take it to the dealer here in san antonio.

i'm thinking of lubing the rails or the joints, but i didn't get a chance to get a good look down there yet and don't knmow what kind of lube i should use.

I had the same problem. At first all they did was try and retighten and it came back. After the third time they replaced the brackets, and it was all set.

I had a problem with my driver seat where it would actually rock back and forth if I pushed back on the upper seat. I took it into the dealer and they fixed it no questions asked.... I did have to keep it in over night tho because they needed to order replacement rails I believe. The tech that worked on it said "it felt like a f'ing rocking chair, but now its good to go".

yeah, mine doesn't rock or anything. it just creaks when i get in and lean to the right side. it creaks again sometimes when i take left-curves fast and lean to the right. i know it's somewhere in the rail because i pushed on the bottom part of the seat (the pivot point) and made it creak. it doesn't happen during normal driving or anything, but it's pretty loud when it does happen and sounds just like someone walking in an old creaky house.

check to see if this noise is from the seat belt buckle.
I think alot of TL and CL have this problem. It is the hinge of the seat belt buckle that's making the noise.
So spray some WD40 on the hinge of the seat belt buckle where it is connected to the seat itself. This might help some of you.

it's not the seatbelt thing and it's not the passenger seat leather squeaking. it's somewhere in the rail/mounting bracket that's "creaking". it's not like the sound of sitting on leather, it's the sound of sitting on an old rocking chair, just not as bad.

There are several possibilities here, the most common is caused by a slightly too long bolt that attaches the seat belt buckle to the seat frame .If your car has this noise it will only creak with the seat adjusted to the lowest position possible ,the cure is to "adjust" the bracket a bit so the bolt no longer touches the seat frame itself.Do not bother replacing the bolt an adjustment is all that is needed here .A worn seat base is another source of noises.Worn seatbases are not common but usually if it is a problem exhibit a lot of movement from the seat almost like a rocking chair. The only cure is to replace the seatbase trying to fix it by bending or prying is more or less fruitless.Another noise commonly heard is believe it or not the headrest. This little creak happens when the headrest is all the way down ,when you sit in the seat it creaks. There is no cure except to move the headrest up so that a slight gap is between the seat back and headrest. This is known as "upholstery noise" and other than moving the headrest I have not seen any good cures.A very unusual noise can sometimes be heard from the seat back it too is a sort of creaking .It is caused by the foam pad contacting the seat frame. For whatever mysterious reason in some cars the foam makes a weird little creak noise the cure is to dismember the seat and apply felt tape to the seat frame.A similar noise exists in a very few seat bases and requires the same fix.
One big note here all of you should be aware of.The use of ArmorAll or similar products can and frequently does cause creak and squeek complaints.Warranty will NOT pay for a complaint caused by the use of these types of products. If you feel the need to use these products use them very sparingly and if a noise occors stop using it and pray it goes away.
I do not recommend or suggest these products to my customers for this reason.Hopefully this addresses some of your questions.

Jens Heydel, then what would you recommend us to use to condition our leather seats? Any particular brand?
