Re: Comptech B Pipe

Just doing some reading and wanted to clarify if there are any new bits of information members had regarding the Comptech B Pipe.

I am not planning on supercharging my CL-S.

But planning on:

* Comptech Icebox
* Comptech Headers
* Comptech Axle Backs

Is the Comptech B Pipe a waste of $$$ for my setup?

Since Comptech is no longer with us...RIP...warranties and what have you don't matter at this point.

My information I gathered was from:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/ct-b-pipe-update-440925/

Some say I would have less torque and more high end.

Do I really want that...sounds like a bad investment right?

CT is still around. But they don't make the B pipe any longer. Unless you can find one used from a member.

just investing in a full custom exhaust for what you will spend on that B pipe. The full exhuast will benifit you more later..

^ So you are saying...

Go to an exhaust shop and get some 2 1/2" piping to connect my Comptech Headers to Comptech Axelbacks?

Or scrap the entire B pipe & axelbacks and have a shop make one specific for my CL-S?

Please clarify.

I was planning on purchasing the Comptech axel backs next month.

I don't think I can afford the a custom mandrel bent exhaust and I do like the thought of reppin' the Comptech there.

What advantage is it to run a 2.5 inch custom exhaust if all those other pieces are already 2.5 inches?

for what you gonna pay for the axle backs alone you can get a full custom 2.5 cat back and magna flow mufflers. But hey if you dont mind over spending money for the name Comptech then I totally understand. But if you have Comptech header money when you can buy XS Headers for like 900 bucks cheaper I tilt my hat to you

Yeah I was originally going that philosophy until some people starting convincing me that the Comptech items were so much better than going with the cheaper alternatives.

It's a toss up!

I'm just digging more into my search.

Sounds like the B Pipe or aka Y Pipe is going to be a waste for me.

For your configuration, B-pipe would not benefit you. You'll see gains if you're FI. Not too much to gain with the exhaust if you're NA.

Just go with an axle back if you want a better sound.

Yeah...should have tapped harder on that search button.

Found some other threads that touch on these points already.

I've been happy with the CT mufflers for 2 years. Maybe I'd squeeze a little more power from upgrading the b pipe to custom, but I see no need for the expense. The CLS exhaust is very good as it is. Any muffler you get it's only going to change the sound.

^ Yeah I agree.

Originally, I think I was confused as to what function the Comptech B Pipe served.

Hadn't done enough research yet to really make an educated decision.
