I Must Rant!

Please let me vent this off for a few. I'm a native Washingtonian born and breed in this city and had to put up with some amazing rules and laws and the people who enforce them. In DC you have to have your car inspected every two years and every time I get inspected I play " What Will They Find Wrong Today " with my car. In DC no aftermarket tint is allowed just factory tint, so I have this deal with my tinter where I get a discount to remove the tint-go through inspection - redo the tint. OK..Fine. I put the factory 1157 bulbs back in, OK ..fine . Now this overweight genius who did my car tell me it's illegal because I do not have the factory sized tires on my car and it sits too low. I have 235/45-17 on 17x8 Rotas and H&R Sport springs. The only posted photos of my car can be found in the DC Skyline Drive last year but all of us know that is far from extreme. He tells me I must have the stock sized tires and the proper ride height according to the factory specs in his book. To top it off this is the third time I went through inspection with this set up and now he finds a problem. Genius states I am not allowed to question it, it is in his book and when I go to ask why now he turns his back and walks away
One of his coworkers tell him the car is fine it's just the profile of the tires. So he comes back and pass me but TELLS me he is giving me a break this time but I have two years to make the corrections.
No uniformity or professionism or very rarely. Same set up as last time, different inspector. I'm just millimeters of wishing him an illness.

Sorry for the length.

Also I see this young brother who is on here from DC, I don't know his name but we see one another on 16th Street frequently who has the same set up as I do. Let me know if you had this problem and if not....watch your exhaust system.

Sounds like a government "make work" job and the kind of person who usually gets this type of job.

One of the great features of this wonderful city is with a population three quarters of a million people there is ONE inspection station. At least a few hours toasting in the sun watching almost four dollar a gallon gas kill the ozone layer.

This is another reason why I refuse to drive my personal vehicles or spend money within the District. Try the covert route... If you have a relative in MD, change your address, register your car in MD, and you will not encounter this issue again. I have had two modified CL's and have never had a problem while residing in MD.

Good luck, and fight The Man!!!

I think my mother told me that. Out of 600,000 people how many own cars? I wonder how the people in SE get their cars thru that test... I'm sure they're not quite stock anymore.

damn thats a shame...yea i guess in that case you have to do like Paclark01 does and have your car registered in MD...which is so ideal...1 inspection and done....

Isn't there some paperwork for exceptions you can fill out? How do old cars, or custom cars pass?

dude u need to make some new friends.
that will probably the only way for you to get around in DC.

and yeah, i guess it'll be a better idea to register this car in another state. if u get pulled over, just tell em that u come around often.

Sorry, this is the place that, years ago, when Hertz added Shelby GT350 Mustangs to it's fleet, failed them all. Why? Because when they drove them onto the braking platform at 5 MPH (the testing speed) the rear wheels didn't lock up because of the proportioning valve - designed of course for better and safer braking than other cars on the road. No exceptions, no explanations. Hertz relocated the cars to other places. The DC bureaucracy is filled with tools and fools. And they're all lifers, so he'll definitely still be there when you go back.

Our car are not old enough for exceptions and like young Lloyd said customs cars are usually registered in Maryland. There is exceptions for classics 35years or more older pre-smog. Another experience I had a few years ago was when I had a 92 Eclispe GST, lowered and with a Thermal Exhaust 2 and a half inch full system. Incredibly quiet even at WOT, passed for 8 years then in 04 it fails- too loud. Flowmaster Mustangs passing, not me. So I rigged a stock muffler and tip to clamp to the end of the system-passed. I'm a moron magnet when I get inspected. Two years from now if I have the same problems I'll borrow some 22 year old with cleavage.
