Radar detector smart cord install for CL-S

Just hardwired my Bel Pro RX65 with smart cord, what do you think? I think the smart cord mounting location looks pretty clean. I mounted the RD high for the best radar coverage and it's most sensitive to laser scatter from this location (trust me, I've experimented) plus from the outside you can hardly see it (so I don't have to take it down everytime I park for fear of it getting stolen). Also, I still have full use of the passenger side visor and complete range of motion for the RVM. Mounted the smart cord display so that I could mute it or change volume within arms reach.

I know there's been other threads, but I don't think I've seen it mounted here before. Not sure how large the V1 concealed unit is, so I don't know if it would work, but for Belscort (Beltronics and Escort) units that use the smart cord it's almost a perfect fit.

Looks good. How did you attach it?

Here's where I hung my V1 but I loose the use of my visor on the passenger side. Not too much of an issue since I ride alone most of the time.

I was gonna install mine there but I was afraid the window tint would have an affect on the detector picking up signals

The RD itself is completely visible from the driver's seat. The concealed display is kinda obscured by the steering wheel but I don't use it for the visual alert aspect. Mainly there so I could mute/change the volume easily.

I attached the RD using the supplied bracket/suction cups mounted up near the headboard on the dot matrix tint strip, with the sensor just below the strip. I think the V1's a little too big to mount there and not hinder either the RVM or the PS visor. As long as you use new/properly conditioned suction cups they should stick securely to the raised dot matrix.

The concealed unit is just friction mounted between the 2 pieces of plastic but is suprisingly secure.

I hear ya, that's why I made sure the sensor itself is just below the tint. I've experimented, and the tint really only hinders laser which isn't a concern for some, but for me it was since KY State Police use laser pretty much exclusively on the HWY.

i have the Escort Passport 8500 Radar Detector , i just put it on the middle of the winshield. i wish i could install it like that but it looks too big to fit in such a location.
anybody with suggestion on locations or pics. I will like to kindaoff hide it from outsider view but in such a way that i can still see it form the driver's side (functionality)

Since you can't mount it high (I know the x50's are longer than the Bel's) you've actually got it in the next best place, centered and directly under the RVM. Only thing is, it's pretty visible from the outside when you have it there. You could always do what Allout did and get a visor mount. You would just lose the functionality of the ps visor, but it would be hidden on the outside. The higher up the better for radar, but not as good for direct LIDAR hits (unless you have a V1). Mounted in the middle is the best compromise.

I like the location...some companies say not to mount it there becasue the sun blocker on the top "hinders its reach" but I think its fine...

Sorry, LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is the tech term for laser, which isn't really laser, but ultraviolet light shot in a focused beam.

This post motivated me enough to hardwire my V1 after owning it for 2 years.. It is currently mounted on the windshield just under the rearview mirror and the wiring took MAYBE 10 minutes to run and hook up.

Thanks!
