How do you disconnect the wire at the sensor?

If it's like the O2 sensors I've seen before, the wire goes from the base of the sensor to a plug. That plug is where it disconnects.

What has a metal cap on it?

The O2 sensor won't unplug right at the sensor. Try following the wire that comes out of it until you reach a point were it attaches to another wire via a plug or something else. That's probably were it disconnects. Every O2 sensor I've seen attaches that way.

Juice ,go look at the O2 sensor and then follow the wires from the O2 sensor to the plug .On a CL/S or TL/S series car the lugs are located as follows: Primary O2 sensor has a 4 wire grey connector that is located directly above the differential ,to access it you go from the top of the engine compartment .For the secondary O2 sensor you must be underneath the car ,it is also a 4 wire gray connector located this time next to the passenger side frame rail between the rail and a heat shield in that area of the car .
