updated the first pic instructions to include where to get it. autotoys.com

and total time about 10 min MAX. the hardest part is finding the wire and trying to cut the like 20 pieces of the 3m tape in to little sections.

yeah no more taking out all that prong and crap. MUCH easier to just find the wire. if I have someone cutting the electrical tape for me than like 6 or 7.

Nova,

I used the instructions you posted in August and installed my shock sensor which I got from AutoToys.

It was easy to install the sensor but the sensor is not sensitive enough or perhaps the place I mounted it on is too insulated.

AutoToys sent me a dual stage shock sensor encased in black instead of your clear casing. The sensor (model ALA95) is made by Magnadyne.

I know the sensor work as I tried activating it by tapping on the dash (I was in the car) after arming the car and the alarm went off.

But even when I was rocking the car on the outside, the sensor just does not activate the alarm. I already set it to max. sensitivity.

Please let me know the ideal place to mount my sensor. Thanks.

Rocking the car will not set off the alarm. for that you'll need motion sensor. this is for shock. like when someone hits your car w/ there door or try to break a glass, pry your headlights out. Mine seems to work fine where I have it mounted in my picture. My next project was too add a motion sensor w/ it. For the people who have yet not done this I would recommend may be a motion/shock sensor.

Where do you connect the blue/white wires? Why do you connect them together? What are they intended to connect to?

Why is the sky blue?

Excuse my ignorance, but if you just buy a motion sensor wouldn't it do also serve as a shock sensor? If it's hit in the parking lot, a motion sensor would go off right?

NOVAwhiteTypeS, those are EXCELLENT photos and instructions!

2 questions:
- On pic #1, your link to efunctional.com isn't working correctly. Which sensor should I be using?

- On pic #5, somebody left a comment about why the 2 wires are spliced together? He says you could use the dual stage function if they're not wired together. Would that work?

Thanks again! Those instructions ROCK!!!

Food for thought:

what would it take for a kill switch, i.e. a fuel cut-off trigger

btw, Great job Joe!

woah! this thread is like mega old. I had to check twice on the date. well thanx.

kvx, sorry no idea on the kill switch.

wuvcls- try www.efunctional.com and browse to the car alarm section. any dual stage shock sensor will do.
the reason why I used a dual stage is because it will elminate false alarms and your alarm will ONLY go off when both 1st stage and 2nd stage is triggered.
if you want the alarm to go off every time for every little sound/shock use a single stage and if you don't want false alarms use a dualt stage

LOL, Nova, I was thinking the same thing when I saw this up top!! To those who haven't done this yet, I bought my dual-stage sensor at autotoys.com (I think it was around $12 or so) and I used Nova's directions. Actually, I didn't do the install, a friend of my father's did (he does alarms, etc. on the side). No joke it took him less then 15min.... so these directions have been proven to be awesome and detailed!!

So are the wires the same for the 1st gen? Still yellow with silver dots? Sorry to bring this old one up I'm going to try and install this this week for my 1st gen and also add a shock/motion sensor for my dad's new camry. I asked in the audio/elec forum, but does anyone know how to do this for the camry's?

NO.
First of all, your car has to have stock alarm. Keyless entry is not qualified as "alarm".
The shock sensor trickes the stock alarm to think the hook or door or trunk is opened while the system is armed, so the alarm goes off.

Eh? As far as I know I have the same thing as the 2nd gens do....keyless entry with a panic button and horn if tripped. Also if the door were unlocked from the inside, the alarm goes off. Is this what your talking about?

tw1112,
Yeah, that would work.

For those who keep asking about dual stage and proximity sensor. They WILL NOT work without some sort of special external circuitry. Your stock alarm is single stage triggered. How are you gonna hook up dual stage triggered? Regarding proximity sensor, yeah, you can install the sensor, but as soon as it detects motion, the alarm goes off. So go ahead install it and have fun listening to the horn that goes off every 30 sec.

I have done this installation a few months back. The instructions work great. Thanks.

I used the exact same dual stage sensor as the instructions call for. I only installed one, but have another that I would like to add.

My only complaint is that it is not sensitive enough. Has anyone used a single stage? If so, please post the info on where I can order one?

If no one has done this, NOVAwhiteTypeS - could you please recommend a single stage shock sensor to use in the application?

Thanks,
juice

Thanks silverknight!!! I will try this out soon as I get the sensors.

For those looking for sensors you can go to www.autotoys.com and they ought to have what you need.

I'm no NOVAWhiteTypeS but I guess I could answer your question.

If you get a sensitive sensor, you would have to set it to the least sensitive level like I did. Back then, a UPS truck was enough to set mine off. So the problem is with your sensor.

If you could locate a instant trigger (aka single stage) sensor, then it would be perfect. Originally, I was forced to use dual stage because I couldn't locate a single stage so I put "dual stage" in my template.

Thanks.

I found this one, http://store.autotoys.com/cgi-bin/wfp53024.storefront .

Do you think this one will do the trick. It looks like it is adjustable.

The link does not work. Go to autotoys.com. Do a search on shock sensor. Go to the second page of results. Click on Result # 13.
