New Grill

This is the same old method, but using the plastic gutter guard. I was getting sick of the bent aluminum from the rocks. So painted the plastic with chrome paint (it realy does look like chrome )after I cut it. It worked realy well, I've had it for a week now, and no pealing (I also used some enamel before i spray panted it). I also like the pattren on this alot better .

here is the orginal plastic versus painted versus the aluminum

I unscrewed the symbol then I cut behind it while the rest was cut and installed. I saw it easier to work with plastic

What did you use to cut the mesh?? I tried using wire snips and it was to hard to cut and left horribly sharp edges. I think I hav heard of people using scissors but I thought the mesh would be to strong for that.

Does anyone know how to install the lower mesh? I've seen someone have it "behind" the bumper. I'd like to try and do it this way.

Since its plastic it I used scissors to cut out the large portion, then I used snips and it worked out fine no sharp edges with plastic .

I dont know how to do the lower yet, I'm sure there are alot of info in the forum

Yes everyone is using the wire mesh. I dont think I have seen anyone use the plastic before, so I figured I'd experiment, and it worked good. Yes the plast was from home depot, right next to the wire one.

I'm glad you did try it out I saw the plastic at ACE hardware and wondered how well it might come off, sure looks good. The biggest complaint about the wire stuff is that when gets bent its gonna have those focked up reflections.

refer to this hi-res picture, you can see the brand name/type clearly. http://images.fotki.com/v6/photos/3/..._0720AF-or.jpg

i've been using plastic mesh for my grill for over a year now.. onw thing tho, the plastic seems to have warped on mine (due to heat/weather)... so the plastic may not be better than the metal mesh...

but its easier to cut (make duplications, the pattern matches when you line them up). And the wire would not last a year, it would get all kinda dents from rocks. I made about 3 meshes just incase something happens to the one installed .

instead of cutting out a big hole for the "A" y didnt u just cut 2 small ones just enough for the 2 pins on the back to the "A" to fit?.. to each his own i guess...
looks good tho.

I didn't particularly care for the mesh on either of those gutter guards, plus I wanted the "black" look. I ended up buying some excess window screening from home depot, the real thick black stuff they sell for homeowners with pets, its a very small mesh and very stiff and dark. Then I couldn't get it very tight on the grill as it was flimsy compared to the gutter guard... so I used the gutter guard as a backing and laid the screen over top. The gutter guard material holds it up and the chrome ring seals it up tight... It looks kinda cool too as the chrome mesh behind it gives it a really cool metallic look... I dig it...

Yo Renegade, I got an 03 CLS and made the grill using SilverKnight's instructions. The wire mesh is a little short in height and it is a biotch to cut but it's cool.
